server selection - RAM or CPU?

Between a PII 450Mhz Gateway with 768Mb of RAM and a
IWill DCA200 mobo with Dual PIII Xeon 666Mhz with only 256MB RDRAM 800Mhz, which would be a better server?

And if I sacrifice my 29160 card & 36Z15 SCSI drive to the dualie, does it make any different? with only 256Mb RAM... so broke.

256M ram is gonna be VERY VERY limiting for web hosting, you'll find 256 gets eaten before you hardly get going good just 256 more would make a HUGE difference.

It's a toss up, is it going to serve up static pages or dynamic pages generated by a data base. If it is one site with not heavy volumeI would go with the dual.

RAQ's only have 450Mhz processors and with 512+ memory they can be a nice little server.

More RAM if you can afford it. If it is going to be more CPU intensive such as dynamic pages or database access, CPU would help. Overall RAM would reduce the Disk Swapping and thus overall better for the machine no matter how you cut it.
