Video hosting on VPS and Bandwitdh questions

A colleague and I are making a website that host Japanese cartoon called Anime. We are both fairly new in web-hosting and we were wondering what type of server would hold up the load and how much bandwidth usage are we looking at each month.
The videos are 70-100mb each. We expect to have about 300-500 users on at any given time. (or maybe around 70k visits/day)

We did some research and found some options:
    1. VPS hosting with unlimited bandwidth ($35/mo)-surprisingly cheap
    2. Amazon S3 (charge $0.12/GB bandwith)
    3. Dedicate server with 5TB bandwith ($150-170/mo)

Any info on how much bandwidth we will need a month and which option is the best would be kindly appreciated.

Don't actually expect the full thing. Most of these are 'unmetered' with no guaranteed speed which means if you only get 3 - 4Mbit/sec outbound, 'hey its unmetered at least!'.

You'd be best off finding a host with affordable per TB addons and going from there.

Forget about VPS with "unlimited bandwidth". You might consider "unmetered", which means to be tapped on a certain bandwidth limitation (For example 20 Mbps, 50 Mbps or 100 Mbps speed). This will cost you certainly more than $35/month.

I do not know about Amazon. However i'm sure that it would not be cost-effective solution! A dedicated server would be fine and yo should be able to get a good machine at $15- $170 per month. Dedicated is probably the best option!

I guess CDN is much suitable for you.
But you have to budget your bandwidth cost.

If your 100mb videos are 15 minutes long, then the math is so:

    500 People watching a 15 minute 100mb file at 500kbps = 7,500 viewing minutes requiring a total of 26.822gb - lets call it 27gb.

    27gb x 4 = 108gb per hour * 24 = 2592gb per day.

    2592gb * 365 = 946080 gb yearly / 12 = 78840gb monthly = 78.84 tb monthly. This equates to 9.855 TB per month data requirement on a 50-60MBPS line.

Please note that the maths was completed using BITS and the final result given in BYTES.

Hope this helps(and is correct lol)

Is it possible to set a specific outbound speed for each user, like around 300kbps to save some bandwidth if I was to use a dedicated server ?

And thank you everyone for your responses and insights.

You can rate limit on a per user or a 'whole server' basis easily enough
