My sites traffic down to quarter - is it hosting issue?

My all sites( one is this) have lost as much as 50-75% of traffic in last 2-3 days and mine is HostGator shared hosting. I see no performance issues when I access my sites from my PC. There does not seem to be any hosting issues.

Google webmaster tool is showing some DNS/timeout issues which I'm not sure if it is correct - pl. see thread here.

Any suggestion?

Those images do not show errors. They show the table headings with no entries listed below them.

If you suspect DNS issues, use intodns.com to make sure everything is configured correctly.

Do you have any monitoring services set-up for your site like pingdom? 50-70% decrease in traffic is fairly significant, however there could be many reasons for that decrease in traffic (most not related to your web host).

I also know that Google has been doing a lot of updates to their search algos , this could be part of the problem as well.

Can you confirm with Google that your major keywords are still top ranking asking since if you are having most of traffic coming from Google then there have been recently a new update of Google called not sure if your site was effected due to Penguin Update!

It is there within a rectangle containing text and "More Info". It pops up when I hover mouse over the tabs - DNS, Server Connectivity, Robots.txt

Well all my half dozen sites will not be affected in the same way then. Once one my site lost traffic heavily. But in a week it bounced back.

i have to say that the speed of a webhosting account does matter a lot. quick example. i run a small jokes site, just for fun - www.youlol.net. The old server was indeed an old machine, so i decided to upgrade to a new server, with 16 gigs of ram / ssd's and a few improvements in the cpu area (i don't use this server just for the jokes website obviously, i have shared hosting customers as well).

Anyway, after switching the server, the load times of the site decreased from 1200 ms to 280-380 ms average. I noticed nothing different the first few days, but after a week, the traffic doubled, and it has been growing steadily. Since i have made no seo related modifications, just the server / load speeds - then yes i can safely say that hosting performance is a key factor in how good your site is ranked in search engines.

Looks like DNS report is fine. Is this site which lost 75% of traffic loading fine in your browser?

But the Alexa rank of your site is very less(21,00000). Why do you need so much of RAM? Where did you get these load time figures from?

The cause can be the latest google search update http://googlewebmastercentral.blogsp...h-quality.html

as i have previously stated i obviously don't use the server just for such a tiny website. i provide shared hosting to a bunch of customers, and i wanted to be all about speed and fast websites.

anyway

i have been testing the site speed with google pagespeed/yslow/gtmetrix/blamestella/webmastertools and a few others just to make sure i get consistent results.

i know about the last google update but the traffic surge happened after i changed the server. after the google update, my traffic has been just minimally growing/staying aprox the same, hence my conclusion that it's not google related, but site performance.

I was thinking along the same lines. May I ask the OP where he/she is getting their visitors from?

90% of them from Search Engines. But there no site issues, seo is good enough, absolutely no black hat techniques I'm using. Why all half dozen site are getting affected at the same time? For full year good traffic. Google is expert in catching black hat techniques.

You can blame Google for that traffic drop.
