backup site?

Hello,
I was just curious about how many people here have a copy of their hosting site at a different web host (also under a different domain) so that when your main site goes down you can direct your customers to the back up site. I was thinking about doing something like this and I would like to get some opinions to see if other people thought it would be worth it.

For example, I am a reseller and the company, "www.hostingcomp.com" (<-- not the real name), that I resell for has a backup domain called"www.hostingcompbackup.com" and if their main site happens to go down they can send emails out to their customers who can go to the backup site where they can read about what may be happening with the main site (what the problems are, time expected to be down, etc.).

Thanks!

Seems to me to be a additional expense for a problem that, hopefully, doesn't occur that often.

I also resell and use multiple hosts so that if one blinks off the face of the earth, I can move the sites to another host with minimal downtime. I suppose if you have a similiar situation, it could hurt to have the setup that you describe

Cheaper way of doing this would be keep the backup of your site if your host dissapears sign up with a new host upload the backup you are done.

I suppose another way you could have as a backup plan could be just have a line in your house incase your host goes down and just plug in a spare CPU you have lying around,

Spare computer, not CPU. Wouldn't make much sense to plug an ethernet cable into a processor
