Want to change from HawkHost to a reliable host!
Hello.
I've been with Hawk Hosting for half a year now.
So far no problems. I was really satisfied, but recently I keep getting dabatase errors and the server is down and whatnot.
It starts to annoy me. It's not my fault. It just keeps happening.
One of the reasons given by the support center was:
"A bad MySQL query run by a user apparently jammed the server."
Just this week it has happened three times already.
I'm losing a lot of traffic through that.
I'm going to observe the next few weeks, but if it continues to be down so often I need to find a REALLY reliable host instead.
Any good alternatives that offer something similar?
I'm on shared hosting with 6GB disk space and 90GB bandwidth.
That's enough for me at the moment.
A while ago I had a hard time deciding between Hawk Host and MDD Hosting. Despite being a bit more expensive how's the reliability?

MDD is fine.
But Hawkhost is usually fine, too.
Remember that SHARED hosting is SHARED. Neighbors can cause issues anywhere.
If it's detrimental to have any downtime, then you need to be using a VPS or dedicated.
Hawkhost will likely suspend the problem user, so just consider waiting it out.

Why not ask them to move you to a different server?
Hawkhost is good provider, problems can occur at any time. You are on a shared server so other users can create problems as kpmedia mentioned in above post.

Here are some factors to look into;
1. what type of site of do have (wordpress, forum, etc.)
2. how many visitors do you average a month
There could be the possibility that your site is at the limit a shared account can handle, abnd you might be better moving to a VPS.
But if your resource usage is not at that level then look within your site to see if anything is causing the issue.

+1 for trying to sort it out with HawkHost, they are generally pretty solid. As pointed out, just ask to be moved to a different server. I'm sure they have quite a few by now that you can jump onto.
Though they should have some sort of auto-kill for queries that run too long though. Unless that user that has the junk script is just that bad it keeps piling up too fast. That would be an internal thing that they need to deal with. i.e. have that client fix it or give them the boot.

IF this issue "A bad MySQL query run by a user apparently jammed the server." is happening regularly it is host job to fix it, you cant give same excuse again and again.

That's the common sense answer.
The reality answer is some hosts will point the finger at the customer and blame them with every possible answer they can think of...which creates the customer having the same issue over and over again.

+1 for working the issue with Hawkhost. I haven't used them but from what I read they look good,so I think that they can help by moving you to another server.

I have seen a few complaints with HH but from what I hear they are actually a pretty good company.
but if you are looking for newest host with decent prices, I recommend from personal experience graywebhost.com or hostjail.com or bezazz.com
Speedy Sparrow is also another company i hear good things about(the guy who owns it or works for them is on the forums and is pretty helpful). I've personally never used them but I am interested in their services for a site i am launching in May/June

The hawkhost is not so good as my experence only from the start. I applied a basic package from Hawk on 24/Apr, I paid by paypal ( verified by paypal and use it for more than one year no problem ) but get refund invoice from hawk around 3:00AM china time this morning.
Waste my time only argue the payment. As hawk homepage to say, only 1-2 hours to finish setup account for sharing host... It cost me more than 30+hours to solve it only on payment.
Anymore, I noticed that Hawk register domain from 2009, still need time to evaluation... but headache, when it new, the sharing cliet is not so much ... and when his customers grow, the sharing host meet problem as the author said. It has some difficult to find the balance.
Maybe I should try others instead of of hawk, the hawk even don't want to give me to chance to try his service even when I paid and refund back.

Its not just the problem of the host, its a general issue that pops up with most of the hosting providers when you are on a shared hosting plan.... A shared hosting means that there would be literally 200 to 300 customers using / consuming the resources on the very same server... If any thing goes wrong from any one the customers end which may affect the server, this will definitely affect all the other users / customers too on that server...
If you are planning to upgrade your budget for hosting, then the best option would be to go for a VPS or a Cloud based instance... This will give you a hosting space which has privacy and features simillar to that of having a private dedicated server....
For providers list, you could check out the offers section/ pages and various reviews posted on WHT... It would be of great help....

We have a lot of servers: http://www.hawkhost.com/Network/serverlist unfortunately from time to time people abuse our services and might cause issues for one machine. In a lot of cases you'll never notice our systems administration team catches them before they ever cause an issue and shut them down. Other times the abuse is so bad so quickly that we're stuck being retroactive rather than proactive. We're playing a real tough game as seen on WHT terminating services of abusers leaves them unhappy. On the other hand not doing so results in topics like this.
We're not sitting here idle and happy about any system degradation. On the other hand I don't think it's a fair expectation to expect a web host with more than a few servers to somehow keep every server 100% optimal 24/7 365 days a year. It does not require much to even bring highend systems to their knees. A single user on a server can crash it if they run the right kinds of things on the system that you don't account for. Then with a lot of systems it's not like you have a system administrator watching live metrics. You rely on things like nagios and automated recovery systems to act as a first line defense. It helps keep prices down while offering reliable service the vast majority of the time.
So I know for a fact we can improve on our identification and resolution of potential system issues. I'm sure a host with enough servers can say the same thing. We have a bunch of active issues about random instances where our systems did not function in the way we like or at all. These being bugs as in development and on most production systems they did work. We go back find out why implement a fix and it's pushed to production. We don't randomly change things hope it works type of mentality.
With all this being said if a user ever wants to switch servers we do consider it. We always though evaluate why and if it is a wise move. If there is a case where some abuser caused issues we terminated them and problems are gone. Moving a user complaining about issues in the past to somewhere else isn't helping them at all.

Since you're from China I'm going to take a guess and say you gave us a domain with a high probability of violating our terms of service and a refund was issued stating that. We're being very strict about domains that mention bags, jerseys, phones, leds, jewelery, dresses etc. This is us being proactive about a growing problem of users in China setting up sites involved in counterfeit goods. If we see them right in our plain view on signup we're going to be smart and not accept such an order.
