Peer1 / Serverbeach.com review - 7 day review
I've had a SmartServer with iWeb since middle of last July, and was happy with it, till this past March when I suffered from 12 hours of downtime, and then again 2 shorter outages in the same day last week.
The guys at serverbeach got me signed up on a new dedicated server in short order. I sent my new account rep an email one evening at 9:34 and he replied with an order form around 10pm.
I was a bit leary at first, as I was paying more, for slightly less CPU and HDD space, though double the RAM. We're finding a large drupal site we have is running noticeably faster, even though the CPU clock speed is slower than what the iWeb SmartServer had.
So far I'm really impressed, I put a ticket in for additional IP's and that was resolved in 14 minutes flat, thats right, 14 minutes fromentering the ticket, till I had a reply sayig the IP was ready to go.
So far server reboot tickets have been about 5 minutes, I put a few in just to test responsivness, though they have a remote reboot funtion on their portal which works perfectly fine too.
Bottom line is, I'm impressed so far.

Good stuff! Peer 1 has an excellent North American backbone, you will not be disappointed with their quality bandwidth.

Any updates to share with ServerBeach? I'm considering a dedicated server with them for a personal project, and wanted to see if your experience has changed.

Still totally impressed. Just a few example ticket experiences I've had below
First ticket was asking for an additional IP, Within 14 minutes that request was FULFILLED, not replied to, it was completed.
in another, I asked for rDNS to be updated, at 11:37 am, it was completed at 11:43 am
Keep in mind that these are unmanaged boxes, so don't expect cpanel / regular OS support for email and ftp etc.

Glad to hear everything's still going smoothly. PEER1 has a great backbone and NOC. iWeb uses them as an upstream as well, but along with 5 other providers of which 2 are also PEER1's upstreams, so it'd be interesting to see how their network performance would compare, and if having Cogent in the mix helps or hurts performance when there are also premium networks in the mix.

My serverbeach server has slower specs than my iWeb server did, but it run's circles around my old iWeb server. I'm assuming this is because my Serverbeach server isn't running a layer of virtualization like my iWeb SmartServer was

I'm glad you're happy with them, I actually was looking into getting a dedicated server with them. The only bad thing I have to say about them is they spam me with phone calls, just like register.com you have to yell at them to get them to quit calling asking you to buy stuff. Anyways enough off topic stuff, thanks for the review and i'm going to look into them again!

I was pleased with ServerBeach during the time I was with them, though that was years ago and is probably no longer relevant. It's good to hear they're still serving their customers well.
Some trivia: ServerBeach was the former home of YouTube, before Google purchased it and moved it in house. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-eabS5AKxk

Hmm the virtualization layer shouldn't be noticeable. I would have liked to see that SmartServer.
Anyway sorry we were not a fit but as long as you are happy now.
