    WAMP and windows 7

Has anyone else run into issues running WAMP on a Windows 7 64bit computer?

There seem to be quite a few comments about WAMP crashing upon startup, relating to a stack overflow. It works for a few days then I get "Aestan Tray Menu has stopped working".

I tried re-installing the package which did the job but then this morning the error has returned.

Might try running the 32bit version and see how it goes.

I know there are other packages that do the same as WAMP or better but I do like it's simplicity.

Try the 32-bit version if you are on 64-bit. I ran into a lot of problems with 64-bit myself on windows 7 after switching to 32-bit everything seemed to go back to normal. Not sure why the 64-bit gives so many problems. When I used the 64-bit version it would not go online or anything.

You will if you try to install ioncubeloader inside it. It hates 64-bit.

Yeah I ditched the 64bit version a few weeks ago. Since then the 32bit version has been running flawless.

Well, today the error is back and I'm running the 32bit version.

Anyone suggest a similar program to WAMP with the similar ease of use?

    • Make sure no other program conflict Wamp such as IIS, Skype, Zonealarm, firewall/antivirus, NOD32, Eset, any web related program including Remote Desktop ...

    • IIS and Apache/Wamp are both web server and might conflict in some way, so you have to disable IIS in order for Wamp to work

    • Disable IIS:Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, Turn Widows Features On or Off, uncheck Internet Information Services

    • If using Skype, open Skype > Tools > Options > Advanced > Connection then uncheck "use port 80..." restart Wamp then Skype

    • Also, in folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc, open file hosts and delete anything in this file and have only this line below and nothing else
      127.0.0.1 localhost

    • Make sure you are using correct version of .net. Unlike WAMPserver 2.0 that work with .Net frame 4, Wampserver 2.1 and 2.2 requiere old .Net 3.x

You won't really get any better than WAMP on a windows machine for testing/development.. I say that because I don't know anybody who'd use it for active sites, you could always try out a free control panel.. I think dotnetpanel and helm (free version?) if memory serves me right.. but nothing is as easy to install as wamp

I like wamp since you can easily switch between apache/php/mysql versions on the go. Develop in 5.3.x, test on <5.2 or 5.4 etc.

I've never had any issues. Only thing I've run into is Skype taking over port 80. Just have to uncheck one setting in Skype and it works. Other than that, works flawlessly.
