Yes, it's usual to have a patronym in our culture (Russian). It can be considered a middle name. Mine is Yurievich (a reference to the father, Yuri).

Absolutely, I also use my middle name as primary, which I have not seen allot of.
My primary is over populated "Matthew" =( ..though I do use it on any official docs corp,govt

On my Italian birth certificate my "middle names" are 'Antonio Nicholi'. On my US birth certificate and all state/government documents it is 'Ryan'.
