Looking at switching my hosting provider from eHostSource to ApolloHosting.

Am curious if any of you web masters have any expirence with these guys.

They seem to be very profesional and attentive!! Not the least expensive but have been burned before persuing that strategy :-)

I have a few sites currently hosted at Apollo. The main issue I have with them is their email servers have not always been reliable.

We have had email lost at times and other times we receive duplicates of all incoming messages.

They also seem to have issues receiving email from AOL users at times. Apparently Apollo has been aware of this problem since at least May of 2002 but it continues to affect some of our clients.

I used Apollo for a couple of months now, and I've been quite satisfied. The email services uses Postini to filter junk mail. It is very gratifying to be able to kill bucketfuls of spam with a few keystrokes. However, some spam gets through and is never filtered. The Apollo rep who discussed this with me (yes, he actually called me after I filed a trouble ticket) said that the mail integration with Postini wasn't foolproof.

No personal experiance with them, but they look pretty reputable.

I used apollo probably 5+ yrs ago...

They had very professional service back then.
I don't imagine they have gotten worse and stayed in business these last 5+ yrs

Never hosted with them but I'll share with you and others what I like about Apollo Hosting.

• BBB member with a clean record for the last 3 years.
• A Vbulletin support forum. (Always nice to see a company that is willing to invest a few $$$ into their business.)
• Toll free support. (I've never had a need for it but it's nice to have that option.)
• Exstensive online support info including video tutorials.
• Snail mail address.
• Referral program.

What I don't care for.

• Sub domains. $20 Setup Fee.
• Setup fees on shared hosting accounts.
• Extra data transfer. $12/GB or $50/5 GB (Most providers charge between $2 - $5 per gig)
• "Apollo Hosting charges a $25.00 fee for returned checks as well as charge backs." (I agree with regard to checks.)
• Prices and plans subject to change. (I prefer hosting providers that "lock" their fees as long as you remain on the same plan that you signed up with.)
• Expensive

OVerall, looks like a sound hosting provider that many would probably be happy with if they have a plan that fits your needs and budget.

I am also looking at apollo hosting, and I worry about that mail problem that was mentioned.

I rely heavily on e-mail, and I was just wondering if there was any more information on this... has it been "fixed"?

We have been using them for past 2 years..

We don't use email to much so I can't say anything about that, but they have very good customer service, I never had any problems reaching tech support.
I don't remember them having any major problem like server down in last 2 year.
They are pricy but I you are looking for something reliable I would definitively recommend them.

I use ApolloHosting - while everything is professional, I have had a nightmare using their email services. About every week to week and a half the dreaded "relaying denied" message comes up. My account is totally frozen until I trade about six emails with them over the course of a day. This past time they wiped out my FrontPage extensions, so now I am uploading through an FTP service.

No, the email service has not been worked out, which is why I started looking this morning to see if other people had the same issues - I see that this is a chronic issue with them. Anyone have any suggestions on good web providers - my business is heavily reliant on email, so webmail (for the road) is important to me as is stability.

I have had numerous (months long) of lost emails, error messages of Relayed Denied, not being able to access webmail account due to "Not recognizing my Cookie ID", zipping our companies Inboxs many many times when we have asked them not to do so and then having to contact tech support and spend hours requesting that the inbox be unzipped. If I could only bill them for the lost hours I and my colleagues have spent trying to rectify these issues. I've submitted requests as emergency level and it still takes them all day to finally respond back to tell me they can't figure it out.

The tech support seems to be very nice people but they just can't seem to resolve these critical issues for us.... its a shame!

I wouldn't recommend Apollo, unfortunate for the nice people that work there.

Apollo is great. We used them when they were just starting up back in 99.
