A good fresh hoster, please

"I need a shared hosting supporting this version of that, that quantity of bells and whistles, and yes, everything must be at a cost of $1".

The above isn't a request for something. Rather, it's how most requests look like. Looking for particular features becomes a real adventure, since most hosters offer the same ubiquitous list of the same standard features. The difference becomes irrelevant. We are the Hosting, your desires are meaningless, resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

What I need is a simple yet efficient way to find a host with given set of features. Anything, from being located in my very location up to the color and decorum of their datacenter walls.

It's obvious existing hosting search facilities are all those useless filters for traffic and disk space. Come on, people, if your management means is CPanel, don't list its features. They are all known. Do you really think I will look for a host offering no less than 100500 databases or email addresses? You are kidding.

No, the really useful search engine would allow looking up by any criteria. And of course none of hosters would provide those data: they would have better ways to waste their time. Such an engine would require a horde of enthusiasts asking hosters and updating database.

Basically, I am looking for such a horde, since the interface to such a search is easy to implement.

Yes, I like looking for a brave new hoster. Really new and really brave. But when I need to find routinely a host matching several really important criteria, I feel like Sisyphus.

Any suggestion, folks?

Hah! I agree with you to a certain extent. You'd be surprised at how many people aren't aware of what cPanel is though. Not only that, some do disable many of the 'standard' cPanel features.

The reason I think your search tool doesn't exist is because there are SOOO many different variables. Different disallowed PHP functions, exec times, file upload max, different security measures...etc.

So the approach most take is, "We'll list the available cPanel features and have prospective clients ask us about more technical features."

Indeed. However, at times such a search facility could extremely helpful. And hosters that really care about customers could answer such strange questions.
