Hostsystem down

Dear customer,

unfortunately, the filesystem errors where too serious for repair. Therefore, we had to reinstall the hostsystem. At the moment we're restoring the servers backups. Your system should be available again as soon as all works on the hostsystem are finished.

Kind Regards,
vSERVER Support Team

I'd never assume that. Check to see if a host specifically mentions it and if they don't, ask them.

Complete redundancy with N+1 equipment is not inexpensive to set up and most "cheap" hosts do not do this - because it's cost prohibitive and would drive up their costs and therefor their rates. The slightly higher priced hosts may have the levels of redundancy you're looking for though.

Are you paying for that redundancy? Probably not, which would be why it isn't there.

Always keep an off-premise backup of your control panel content. In a disaster you can get back online pretty quickly, usually within an hour.

I discovered one of my VPS servers offline one morning. It was gone, and was never coming back. The host went bankrupt. I opened another VPS account, installed CentOS & Kloxo, then restored the Kloxo backup. After changing nameserver IP addresses I was live within an hour. I didn't get a single complaint ticket from hosting clients.

I would go further and say I would assume it is not there unless stated.
