Hosting advice, 4 hosts considered
Yeah I know, first post, prepare for the worst. May be my first post but I've been reading on here for awhile now. Never registered due to the fact of Why would I post about something I know nothing about? So here goes what I need from you guys......
4 hosts as follows:
1. webmasters.com
2. powweb.com
3. ipowerweb.com
4. ait.com
Before you go and reply "do a search on each domain.....", I have and have read just about all of them. Not many on any of these really and some were old. Not asking for arguements in this post, mainly I want experience. Who has had experience with these host or know someone who does?
Also, don't want to hear about some of the hosting companies your friend runs out of his bedroom, just these 4, thanks.

You did a search and could not pull any information on powweb and ipowerweb?!? Wow, they are one of the most popular hosts on these boards. Just a word of advice: do not, do not, do not go with options 2 or 3. Do another search and you'll find oodles of folks who have had nothing but pain from those two. 'nuff said.

Brutis....
I havent checked myself but would have thought there would be some pretty current feedback on those..maybe not.
In the meantime you could try searching at www.hostsearch.com in the User Reviews area.
You might come up with additional info.
Other forums you might consider looking for feedback would be:
http://forums.webhostdir.com
http://sitepointforums.com
Good Luck

EcpHosting: I've read postive and negative things about every hosting company, just depends on the person posting the feedback.
Martie: thanks for the forums, checking them out now.
newyorker: Why?, you have to have a reason, state it.

My wife has iPowerweb and I have only seen it down once in about 9 months. Mind you, I am not always checking but that is my experience. Also, for the one time that I needed support, they were helpful. I also have about 20 customers with iPowerweb and haven't heard any complaints from them.
I also have about 10 or so customers with PowWeb and haven't heard any complaints on their end either.

Brutus: you may want to expand your list beyond these four that you chose:
webmasters.com - was looking at their plans, looks good but check the extra cost items to see if it meets your budget.
powweb.com - check the forum comments on this one, have not seen or heard many positive comments.
ipowerweb.com - this is a mixed bag, many don't like it, I have talked to two people (including a family member) that have this host and they seem satisfied. You might want to do a load time check of websites serviced by this host. I thought it was a bit slow on frontpage files.
ait.com - this one I don't know, I have not seen or heard many remarks.

If you want FreeBSD OS and a proprietary control panel then its pair.com hands down.
If you want Linux with a proprietary control panel look at superb.net.
If you want Linux with Ensim try UnitedHosting.co.uk
If you want Linux with cPanel try alwayswebhosting, httpme, myacen, venturesonline, and others (everybody speak-up).
Others to look at are: FutureQuest, Hosting Matters, maybe Atjeu (ask questions - thought I saw they are running cPanel on Cobalt servers)

I don't know exactly what you need, but I use Infodoma.com, and they have low prices and good support and forum. You can always become a member of the forum to ask questions before you sign up, and I like that. It's one of the things that made me choose them.

... but remember.. low prices always should be something to have you ask more questions. Do your homework, you wont go wrong!

Of course. When you sign up, take it one month at a time. I do. When a year has passed and you're still satisified, and haven't heard anything bad, then it might be time to start paying yearly.
