Install cPanel on a Virtual Environment
I have a dedicated server, but I want install cPanel under a virtual environment (all the resources of the dedicated server should be allocated to one VM). My dedicated server provider offers VMware EXSi, XenServer & other Linux based OS.
What is the best virtual environment that I can use? And please let me know how to setup that virtual environment for cPanel installation step by step.
Your support in this matter is highly appreciated.

Personally, I installed cPanel on OpenVZ and Xen based servers.
I can say that cPanel runs very well on Xen.
cPanel installation is basicly the same as on a standard dedicated server, you need to download the installer script and run it from root on a clean system.

Use Citrix XenServer or WMware, do not use OpenVZ.
Also make sure to install CentOS, its the best OS for the new Cpanel version, they stop the updates for some OS, check the end of life for more informations.

as Leriss wrote any virtualization will work.
And about the cPanel installation you can find more informations here : http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/vie...tallationGuide
The installation is the same. cPanel will see if you are running on a virtual enviroment and install the cPanel VPS version.
But why to install one virtual that will have all resources of the dedicated server? To spend the extra 19$ for a Dedicated cPanel License?

Thank you for your reply. I know how to install cPanel, all I want to know is how to configure the virtual environment for a cPanel installation.
If I install cPanel on a VM, it will be easy to manage. Of course, it saves money too.

Thank you for your reply. Citrix XenServer is now well known to me. Can you please let me know the way of setting up Citrix XenServer for a cPanel installation (All the resources should be allocated to one VM)?

This will be better to ask your provider to help.
Also it depends on what virtual enviroment you want. Have you decided yet?

I have installed XenServer 6.0 on my server. When I browse my IP it shows;
Citrix Systems, Inc. XenServer 6.0.0
XenCenter CD image
XenCenter installer
What should I do next in order to configure it for cPanel installation?

You can make the hardware a Xen node and create a VPS and install cPanel. I think as far as you are not going to put any more VPS on this node the Virtual environment won't matter much.

It gives easier redeployability than a normal dedicated server.

Another vote for Xen or XenServer. We converted our older cPanel boxes to virtual on XenServer and it runs great. However CloudLinux was picky at first, but we got the kinks worked out.
Installing cPanel on a Virtual Server is pretty much the same process as a Physical Server.

If you are only using it for cPanel and are not reselling virtual machines, I would prefer Vmware instead.
Can get a non-expiring license for Vmware, while you need to renew Xenserver's license each year.
