Mail server tutorial

Anyone know of a good exim tutorial that cover's IMAP/POP/SMTP? I have tried this one:
http://www.howtoforge.com/exim-mysql...orde-centos5.1

No go, as there are so many error's afterword's with the config and then selinux I don't know if it's worth my time debugging them or finding another started to get it going?

Your question is very broad. My suggestion at this point would be for you to do a fresh install of a free hosting control panel that includes email services. Virtualmin, Kloxo, or ISPConfig3 should all do.

I'm assuming from the link you posted that you are running CentOS 5.x.

Does it have to be Exim or would a Postfix guide work for you too?

The best CentOS 5.x mailserver walkthrough I've seen is at http://library.linode.com/email/post...mysql-centos-5

This one is better IMO, but is intended for Debian 6. But the configuration works great on Centos 5.x as well, just replace the Debian apt-get commands with the equivalent yum commands and so forth: http://workaround.org/ispmail/squeeze

This. If you want to understand how things work and grasp the big picture, the ispmail tutorial is a good start.

You will still need to spend hours reading the documentation of the individual components (postfix dovecot etc), especially if you plan to integrate DSPAM into your mail stack.

Well I was looking for something along the lines of Exim and Dovecot with Horde integration. So I can run Pop3, Smtp and IMAP off the same server.

I did not however know that virtualmin came up installed components , interesting!

How decent is Postfix since I have only ever run Exim?

I'm actually half tempted to re-install ubuntu on the VPS since it would make it a bit easier. I am used to running CentOS and love it, but for ease of use for the first time setting the mail server up myself I might run that route.

Not really a tutorial, but iRedMail does everything for you. http://iredmail.org/

The configuration you end up with isn't necessarily optimal so you may want to spend some time configuring.

Last I used it, it was running at around 600 - 700 MB RAM, so you'll need a 1 GB RAM VPS minimum. But that can be reduced by fine-tuning.

What OS are you using? Ubuntu has the best documentation available and most of it is professionally done so I'd recommending switching if its not too late already

Following random guides on the internet about CentOS seems weird to me..I usually get my info from official Ubuntu resources
