Looking for a great host based in the UK.

Hey guys, I was told where the server is based has a factor on where Google will rank the website. For example, if I wanted to rank high in the UK Google search engine I should get a host provider from the UK. (I'm aware there are many other SEO factors involved but apparently this too is important).

Could anyone recommend a good UK host provider to me? Please also post a valid reason as to why you recommend them.

I'd prefer a similar host to HostGator, where it is easy to navigate through from the technical end.

I have tried 3 webhosting from UK:

1- Simplexwebs: A lot of downtime.
2 - Vidahost: the cloud hosting is pretty slow.
3 - Hostxnow: good and reliable so far.

If you need small space go for hostxnow (I paid yearly and I got a good discount).

What's your budget like? You will find many hosts use cPanel, the same control panel HostGator uses.

You said similar to HostGator? Most big host, like HostGator are located in USA, so it might be hard finding something like that. You might could contact HostGator/HostMonster and see if they have hosting located in UK, but I doubt they do.

(Also - HostGator runs cPanel, most host DO use that, but theirs is HEAVILY modified)

Actually, that's overly simplified. See http://support.google.com/webmasters...n&answer=62399 for a more broad answer to your question.

IMHO, unless you're keen to optimize your visitors web page loading times, it's probably best if you keep using your current host if you've been happy with them.
