For a particular project I'm looking for a reliable shared hosting provider who supports Java servlets, as well as SSL. Preferably a UNIX platform.

Any recommendations?

Thanks for the quick reply, infinity80! Have you used either company, or heard from a friend or client (or seen a recommendation here)? I'll be honest with you - I'd seen javaservlethosting.com in my initial research efforts (but not visionwebhosting.net). Neither company's website design inspires great confidence in me.

Absolutely yes, I am going to partly judge them on their website design. Not just on their website design, but it's a vital part of the equation and tells me a lot about their business.

Can you tell me why do you believe that one should not judge a company based on their website design?

Website design can tell you how good they are at marketing and similar things. It doesn't tell you what's really under the hood.

I have a friend using javaservlethosting.com and he is really enthusiastic on their collaboration. We had a talk the other day and he mentioned that visionwebhosting.net was also reliable. He was more in the business, but we didn't enter into many details.
