TinyVox - I hope you've already got Tier 1 content publication in place and are only looking at these other techniques for the Tier 2 (which will point to your content).
The game has changed and the days of comment/trackback spamming to your money site are gone, along with forum profiles, guestbooks, and a lot of other techniques from yesteryear.
The shortest path between now and #1 involves quality original content published on high pr blogs/social/2.0 sites which links to your money site, and followed up with lower layers of other very diverse backlinking.
