What do you think about this deal?
I got the following deal...
Motherboard: SuperMicro X9SCI-LN4F
CPU: Intel Xeon-SandyBridge E3-1270-Quadcore [3.4GHz]
RAM: 4 GB
Traffic: 3TB
HDD: WD Caviar RE4 WD5003ABYX [500GB]
IPMI
Price: 72$/ month.
What do you think ?

I wonder why you need such a powerful CPU with so little RAM and Diskspace.

E3-1270 is a powerful CPU but it seems you do not use fro VM host ?

This looks like a good deal. Ram is pretty decent but would be better with more as the CPU there is powerful.

1. The price you pay per month, does hardly cover 50% of the power usage of that server.
RED FLAG #1
2. WD Caviar RE4 WD5003ABYX without a raid controller or raid array is a very bad drive selection. Raid edition drives have a TLER (Time Limited Error Recovery), this is the primary feature of a raid edition disk. In practice, this means that such a drive will try to recover any error encountered for a few seconds and if it fails, it passes that task to the raid controller. No raid controller, no raid array but using a RE4 disk means problems in the future. Standard disks onboard controllers try to recover errors for 30-40 seconds.
The provider that offered you this, does obviously not know much about hardware.

It makes financially no sense for a dedicated service provider to offer 4GB memory instead of 8GB memory with this specific mainboard and CPU

We found out that a 'group' of resellers move from provider to provider. Using different business names, they build up a sort of pyramid scheme and end up defrauding both their customers as well as their dedicated server provider.
Beware!
This might be fraud or it might not be fraud. - but there are some red flags in the posting that i can connect with the aforementioned fraudulent group of resellers.
