Hosting with separate IPs on domains - what are your experiences/recommendations?
Hello, everyone! I've been a longtime shared hosting user (cPanel) and I felt like that meme dog (i.imgur.com/yXDd9.jpg) when I got into my current VPS backend (WHM) - I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to IT-related things.
That being said, I'm having some issues with my new VPS; I think it's infected with a virus, but the support staff is less than helpful. I'm thinking about just going back to shared hosting or finding a better managed VPS. I'm only with my current host because it's the only one I found that offers X separate IP addresses per X domains (something I couldn't find on shared hosting). I have about 60ish websites that I need to have some control over IP addresses - I would like each domain on a separate IP address if possible.
So, back to shared hosting or get a better managed VPS? Shared hosting can't allow control over IP addresses in the first place, right? What are your recommendations for hosting with separate IPs on my domains?

Why do you need each domain on a separate IP? You're going to have trouble finding a host that will give you that many IPs, "just because".
ARIN no longer sees that as a valid IP justification.
As far as finding a quality host, that will not be an issue though. What's your budget and specs?KnownHost Managed VPS Specialists

yammez,
If you are looking to host each domain on a separate IP you can go for a managed VPS with the needed IP's or you could look at multiple shared hosting accounts with dedicated IP addresses. Looking at the money involved for approximately 60 shared hosting accounts with 60 dedicated IP addresses versus a single managed VPS with the IP addresses you will most likely find that the managed VPS to be a better bargain. Also, with dedicated IP addresses you will have to have ARIN approved uses, such as SSL Certificates, to get that many dedicated IP addresses.Mike

Agreed. There's no need to gobble up and waste 60 IP's for 60 sites, even if your host will allow it (nowadays most will not give you even 1 extra IP if you cannot provide valid justification). You're not going to improve your search engine ranking, you're throwing your money away, and you're being extremely wasteful of a resource that is very limited.
Just about the only justifiable reason for using 1 IP for each individual site is that you need SSL certificates for each one.

Spend $600 ($50/month) on SSL certs a year (rapidssl, through a reseller) and you'll be able to get all those IPs you want.

Thanks for the replies (some of them anyway ). Sorry about the bad wording before, our sites aren't completely on individual IPs right now, they're divided between 25 different IPs. Right now we're using seowebhosting.net, but I find the support unhelpful/unknowledgeable plus they have NEVER answered or returned a phone call.
Honestly it's hard to tell if a website with a unique IP address can rank higher/easier. Searching for it seems to find a lot of opinions, but there is little to no evidence to support either claim (like VopaHost's especially helpful comment ಠ_ಠ).
Regardless, the lack of evidence for either case makes me think that, indeed, separate IPs will not affect SEO...

Google et al will have likely moved away from unique IP addresses improving SEO in order to reduce the amount of IP wastage involved.

Hopefully this is sarcasm, and you just forgot to use a smiley. Because the idea that using more IP addresses has anything to do with SEO or SERPs is clueless bullpuckey.
Given that "SEO hosting" is snake oil -- and shares the ethics of spammers, phishing sites, and warez -- you're not going to find this being offered from a good host. Legitimate hosting companies want nothing to do with SEO hosting. At least not anymore than they want to send spam or ignore DMCAs.
Most "SEO" hosts are just sharing a pool of IP addresses anyway, and these have likely long ago been flagged by Google as link scheme space. Google isn't oblivious. Neither is Bing. They've invested millions and billions of dollars into those operations, as opposed to the puny few bucks you invest in "SEO" schemes.
Rather than looking for a host willing to put up with silly shenanigans, focus on finding a quality host.
This is often said, and always wrong.
Google employees have already specifically said that this does not have any positive effect on rankings. Indeed, if it has any affect, it will be a negative one.
And it's not something new -- this has been said since at least 2007.|| Need a good host?
