    Anyone hosting with Superb.net?

Curious to hear if others have been having issues with FTP / Email the last several months?

FTP has been up and down the last week, they've supposedly been down a few times to install new hardware yet the issues continue for me - no FTP right now. At least this time the site is still online - last week it was up and down as well.

Email has had issues for years - every few months it will go down.

If you host with them - what has your experience been and how is it going right now?

    Thanks.

What do you mean by issues ? Is E-Mail sending / receiving ? does it bounce back often to certain email accounts ?

They just keep putting out reports that they are sorry for the issues and that they are working on fixing them. Curious if its just the server I am on or if they are having widespread issues. They have not answered my questions that ask that.

The email issues in the past were where the email server would be offline. Same as the FTP now - totally offline - cant connect etc.

Yes indeed, they have been around awhile - I've hosted sites with them for 5 years or so ...

The fact that they have been around is what has me curious about all these issues. I guess no one else here hosts with them and/or they just arent having the same issues I am.

i have used them for about two years now. they were really good. but the last couple of months has been horrendous. my site hasn't been up consistently and ftp connectivity is even worse. ftp hasn't been consistent all year, but just recently it has been really bad. i haven't been able to ftp for about 5 days now. i can't take it anymore, so i'm switching hosts. (i'm on the gridlite plan).

the sad thing is, i can't even ftp to my site to download the contents so that i can move it to another host =/

Never heard of them - but sorry its not working for you. Contact them via Phone?

  12. #12
Never heard of them too. I would never choose a hosting account like that, if they really have those email problems, that you described.

FTP still has not been fixed - been down for more than a week. Only way to get in is SFTP.

Now today ALL my sites are down.

They put out a service bulletin >

We will be performing preventative maintenance on one of the backup generators at the DCA2 data center. This generator provides backup power to rooms G/H. The maintenance window runs from 10am-3pm Today, March 22nd. We do not expect downtime for any customers. This message is just being sent as a precaution.
    No down time? Really?

    This is pathetic!

I really hate having a couple days worth of work to move all those sites!

Use SFTP and you should be able to get logged in.

They were somewhat big back in 04 ish for east coast dedicated servers. They kind of fell of the map the last 4-5 years.

i've been having exactly the same kind of issues baconbits describes; only i created my account only a couple months ago, so i havent seen the good days

my dad has had the universal plan for almost ten years now and he never had issues; i cant find that plan on their web site anymore; i have grandlite, and ftp has been down for many days now (not really sure how many), the web site is currently up but during the year it may have been down more often than up; i see my email from google apps, that has been working fine

support is really kind and polite, but they fail to explain what is going on and if i should ever expect to see things back up again for good; when i read those notices on the tickets window that they are performing maintenance i have no idea if that should/does affect me or not

if it wasnt for my dad's really solid recommendation on them i would have moved away long ago; now that i found out that we have different plans...

everything ive been experiencing is really consistent with what baconbits says, im even surprised

update: the website is now down too...

They must have hired a bunch of guys who dont know their rears from a hole in the ground!

Sites are back up and some how permissions on certain folders were all changed from 755 to 751 - now I've got scripts every where not working.

I wish hosts like this could be held accountable for the damage they do!

  19. #19
yeah, but the funny thing is its only for GridLite; my dad has been connecting fine

    I've got the GridPro account...

The only thing that explains why FTP would be down going on 2 weeks is complete incompetence!

I use Superb Internet Hosting, and have had EXTREME problems with them

Three times now this site has eaten my post saying I need to post 5 times before using VB features. I'm not using any VB features, and it doesn't tell me how to avoid this problem. Here goes again: (Sorry if the same post winds up showing up multiple times, but nothing has said any of the posts actually got posted, nor can I see them.)

To those who ask if this person has inquired with Superb Internet Hosting about the problem, let it be known that Superb has acknowledged they are having an extreme problem with their "Grid-Iron Platform" for more than two months now.

O.K. They have not used the word "extreme," but what do you call it when sites go down almost daily for nearly two months across the entire platform? What do you call it when after six weeks of this problem, they post a bulletin to all their clients that they are getting a new piece of equipment in a few days that will get the system working right again? A FEW DAYS? You don't get a few days when you've been having this problem that long. If you know what's causing it, and you have THAT MANY customers affected, overnight the dang thing! What do you call it when the equipment, then, takes longer to arrive than they promised and then takes longer to install than they promised? What do you call it when, after all of that, the new equipment doesn't even make a DENT in the problem? Two weeks after Superb Internet supposedly installed the equipment that would solve their Grid-Iron Platform problems once and for all, my site still goes down like a yoyo. It has been almost out completely for the last two days Today, they wrote that it is still a problem with the Grid-Iron Platform, not with my individual site. I'd say that's an EXTREME problem.

Now, I'd change hosts to get away from Superb Internet in a heartbeat, except that I fear I may lose content during the change or have to spend days reformatting everything to get the right look back, or may pick another host that is just as bad ... given how good Superb's reviews said it was.

Finally got this message back from them just now:

"We are certainly aware of problems and are working hard to address them. I know the intermittent downtime this past month is beyond frustrating. It is for us here as well. I can assure you we are working with every person we possibly can to resolve all of these issues once and for all. We want it working just as badly since our number one goal is to provide service to our customers that is hassle free and reliable."

A month??? It's been over two months that my site has had Grid-Iron issues. At this point, I'd be done giving them time, except for my concern about all the problems I'd probably encounter trying to get my site transferred to another host. Notice, that, after more than TWO MONTHS (not one), they still seem to have no clear idea what the problem is and are still chasing a solution. I find it so frustrating that I am seriously thinking of just giving up on my blog altogether, rather than try again with someone else only to run into equal frustrations or losses of content.

I think their whole Grid-Iron system is just a lemon. That's what I'd call it if my new car was back in the shop for the same problem that often. It would no longer matter to me in the least that the dealer's Rep. assured me, "We're working on this issue of your car not starting and hope to get it fixed soon." I believe in trying to be patient, but after two months, you don't deserve any patience at all!

when i said GridLite i meant GridIron

when reading what they write they do seem to be committed to getting everything back to normal, but its just been way too long

  24. #24
I liked "GridLite." Was trying to come up with an equally good mockery of "GridIron." Indeed, too long. After two months of bulletins about getting the problem fixed, it is now WORSE than it has ever been. My site has been almost inoperable for 48 hours now. So, I figured it would be more constructive to finally start spending my time posting bad reviews about them. I don't see a place here to post reviews, so I guess I'll have to create my own topic for that. There should be a "Review Section" on the forum with threads for each host where people can then join on one thread to post reviews for that host.

Let's see.... "GridIron...." Hmmm. Maybe "GritIron" given that it runs like it has grit in its gears and given how often you'll have to grit your teeth?
