    And training where you'll do.

A little confused to what you mean, but a little rule of thumb, if you want to close ports the best way is to log into your router and you need to get up rules for which ever ports you want open or closed.

    Hope it helps.

    Many Thanks

If you wish to close port 25, you will need to log into your router and set up a rule to port 25.

Bare in mind you may also need to forward your ports.

If your stuck on how to do this there are many tutorials on google if you just search them.

    Many Thanks

    You shouldn't close "necessary" ports.
Maybe you meant "unnecessary" (not necessary) ports?

Closing port 25 won't necessarily prevent abuse.

As kpmedia mentioned closing port 25 isn't of primary concern. It's better to go by a list of ports to enable than ports to close. Aside from VPN access for a web server you only need ports 80 and 443 (if you have SSL enabled) open. Everything else should be closed.

    applehost,

What services are you running that you need access to? Is this a local box or a remote box? If it is remote are you using Remote Desktop or some other access method?

Windows Server 2008's Windows Firewall does allow you to block ports or IP addresses or both, specifically.
Windows Server 2003's Windows Firewall however doesn't allow directly to do that. It works on exception basis. You choose to allow which ports you want and the rest is blocked. If you want to block exclusively on Windows Server 2003 then you are better off with IPSec.
