Good company with low end servers for cheap?
Like 30 bucks a month. I'm looking for anything that is comparable or above a p4 with atleast 1 gig of ram. And a good amount of bandwidth. Above 2,000gb though i'm only using like 3/10th of that at the moment. I'll be using this as a file server. Probably like need 2-5 of them.
Switching host because my current server is down, and provider has not responded to my messages for 16 hours. It's datashack.net.

Why not look for a VPS instead? I highly doubt you'll find anybody offering a dedicated server at that price, no matter how low end the hardware.

At 30 bucks/mo. for a dedicated server; not many hosts here will respond either.
I'd suggest upping the budget if you want service and reliability.
Or do as someone else suggested and get a VPS.█ Jeremy Kinsey (jer@mia.net) - 262-248-6759

File Servers on a VPS may not be a good idea. You can get larger hard disks on the dedicated.
I have a $25.00 dedicated server that is used for nothing but backups (it came with a 1TB Drive). I have a nightly script that pushes a rsync backup from my home machine and laptop.

@Kmyers,
Who do you have that with?
@OP,
If its file storage, you could also look into Amazon S3 for pretty cheap storage.

Most vps I seen are like 500gb of bandwidth. I need something higher. I know most companies don't deal with low end anymore since there's no point I guess. Even though a p4 is more than sufficient for what I need. I don't even need more than 1gb of hdd for what I'm doing.

You can easily find a VPS with 2TB bandwidth - just ask the provider, they will probably say yes. Bandwidth isn't as expensive as it used to be.

DataShack is a good one.
There's also WholeSale Internet which is slightly more expensive, InterServer, and VolumeDrive if you don't mind waiting weeks for setup and don't need any support.
In Europe there's KimSufi, Hetzner, WebTropia, and EDIS.██ miscis.com - Providing domains and premium hosting solutions at an affordable price

Would you mind me asking what you're doing that only requires 1gb of disk, but more than 500gb of bandwidth? It sure seems like there would be a better way than a dedicated server for that sort of setup, but I can't really help without knowing what you're doing.

I would strongly advise against VolumeDrive due to their dishonesty and no communication skills whatsoever. They will took my money regardless their inability to deliver the service and never bothered to refund, giving BS answers when I was lucky to get any from them. They have no support system, they all-in-one support email address bounces back, they whole C ip ranges are blacklisted my gmail and many other email providers. But with those amazing deals, why should they care?

If your referring to a $30/Mo server which will be running IDE drives Most likely 5,400 RPM compared to a Xen VPS that from a decent provider would be running RE 3/4 Hard Drives with 7,200 RPM and 32/64MB cache.
A decent VPS for $30/Mo will blow away any Lowend server for the same price.

Hello,
I will again disagree.
Code:root@ks389989:~# cat /proc/scsi/scsi Attached devices: Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: ATA Model: ST31000524AS Rev: JC4B Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05 root@ks389989:~#
The Model Number is a Seagate 7200 RPM with 32 MB Cache. It is almost impossible to find a VPS that can give you 1 TB of Space without overselling it to death (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148697)

If your looking for a fileserver and 2 to 5 of them why not get 1 or 2 bigger servers with more harddrive space.
You should be able to find a good fileserver with low CPU but high harddrive space for around 60 to 90 a month.

I have a atom board at home and it only supports IDE I do not know what setup you're running but again your point is invalid and their is no meaning behind your posts. The only provider I know who runs SATA drives in $30 Servers is Kimsufi, Datashack does not use SATA drives in their Atom/Pentium 4 boards. The only way to do this would be to colocate and from what I can tell the OP just needs a inexpensive and easy Server/VPS.
SATA blows IDE away any day since sata doesn't have big ass cables and can transfer data much faster.

For a budget of $30/month you may be need to look for a dedicated server in Europe.
