Supermicro 1U Ampere?
Supermicro SuperServer 1U 815TQ-560CV 560 W Gold
Supermicro motherboard X8DTi-F IPMI KVM
2X Intel Xeon E5620
32gb RAM
4x Seagate Cheetah 600GB RAID 10
Adaptec 2405 or 5405 RAID Controller
How much would you estimate would be the Ampere usage in Coolocation for this Supermicro 1U server with those specs?
Appreciate very much your Ampere estimates for this Supermicro server with 2 Mbits bandwidth Xen VPS hosting!Last edited by Henrik Holben; 03-06-2012 at 04:47 AM.

Hi,
We have more than a rack fulled with such servers, and as my experience they are using 1.5 - 2Amps every one.

It'd be important to know whether you'll be using 120V or 208V power?

Saman I was thinking 1,5 Amps too but didn't expect to hit 2 Amps thinking about Total Amps for the cabinet Maxing out calulating possible amount of 1U's!
Have you been closer to the 1,5 or 2,0 mark in average?
What's your reliabilæity experience with those Supermicros so far? What issues have you encountered? Same setups like the above more or less? Good or bad?

With 32GBs and 6x 15k SAS drives, my guess is it'll be near 3 Amps at 120v, and approximately half that at 220v.

That'd be my guess... We have the exact same setups using Dell servers and Dell PERCs running near that amperage

In a 1U supermicro chassis, you'll need to put your server fans on High speed!
Having adaptec raid would cause a radical amount of heat over a normal 1U SM without adaptec.
Keep in mind that SAS 15K drives are usually run hotter than normal sata drives, again in a 1U setup its a bit risky, never had good experience with 1U SM with adaptec, overheating is most common even after putting the 4th fan in dummy slot.
Considering above, estimating your power usage would be a bit tricky but I would assume around 2.3 to 2.8 amps on 220v European brackets.

Thanks for your reply I was checking Apagdigital webpage and see that they are using 4x JMC 10200rpm 40mm Counter-rotating Turbine Fans
Are those the ones you've been using too? There is really no other choice but the Adaptec in this setup except upgrading to 5405 have you used the 3ware?
