How To : Test for Downtime
Hello, In the hosting industry, I have been contacted by countless customers in the past because they feel that their sites are down. Sometimes it is a false alarm and sometimes it is not. Here are some steps that you can do to check and see if your site is down. Note step 1 is not posting it on WHT for a reason
1) Check your site from a different connection. In some cases it may be as simple as your IP address being blocked in the firewall. Use a web based proxy or even a smartphone works in a pinch.
2) Check your hosts network news page/twiiter feed to see if there is any scheduled maintenance or known issues.
3) Try pingdom to see if your domain can be resolved
4) Place a ticket properly describing the issue and what steps you used to determine there may be an issue
5) Wait 60 minutes - Issues may take some time to be researched. It is not as easy as flipping a switch. While waiting, repeat step 2 every 5 to 10 minutes
6) Respond to your ticket nicely asking for a status update

Also you can use a pingtest websites, try to search in google this word: pingtest
So you just need to put your website IP and it will be tested in servers from all over the world.

Client forgets password --> Client has several attempts at guessing --> Client gets blocked by firewall --> Client thinks server is down --> Client sends in an unhappy support ticket
Have turned the enabled messenger feature in csf, definitely saves everyone a bit of stress.

Firewalls should not be so hair trigger sensitive as to casually ban connections. This seems to be a recent trend instigated by hosts to save bandwidth costs. It does not necessarily benefit the customer.
Reliable sites for third party testing:
ping from 50+ locations:
http://just-ping.com
full page test from selected locations:
http://webpagetest.org
If it fails from these, the host *cannot* truthfully claim that it is your isp.

Pingdom itself has a great tool that basically allows you to not only test a page from multiple locations but you can also see the stats like page load time, its content, dns query time and stuff like that
