Would Windows 2008 web edition work fine?
I'm looking to buy a dedicated server from Hetzner to host 3 gameservers on, they will hold:
-3x gameserver files + run them
-Possibly "FastDL" basically letting my players download content directly from the dedi (If this isn't possible on web edition I won't use FastDL)
-Possibly some mySQL databases via phpmyadmin (I'm almost sure this isn't possible on web edition but would like someone to confirm it for me)
Is web edition able to provide the above? If not, why?

Running the 3 gameservers isn't possible on the web edition.

Why wouldn't it be possible?
Can: Yes.
Can: Yes.
Can: Yes.
Small addition to give you some hope on gameservers in combination with Web Edition: When you order a Dedicated Server with Windows @ Gameservers.com, you get Windows Server 2008 R2 Web Edition (obviously 64-bit).Last edited by Robert vd Boorn; 03-04-2012 at 12:11 PM.

From the SPUR, in relation to Web Edition:
http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing....cumentTypeId=2
LIMITATIONS ON USE
You may use the software for the development and deployment of the Internet Web Solutions. “Internet Web solutions” are publicly accessible and consist solely of the following:
• Web pages
• Web sites
• Web applications
• Web services
• POP3 mail serving
You may use the software to run:
• .Web server software (for example, Microsoft Internet Information Services), and management or security agents (for example, the System Center agent);
• Database engine software (for example, Microsoft SQL Server) solely to support Internet Web solutions;
• The Domain Name System (DNS) service to provide resolution of Internet names to IP addresses as long as that is not the sole function of the instance of the software
Any other usage of the software is not permitted.

That shouldn't apply for a non-commercial usage like the TS'er seems to be planning to do. I've had a similar issue with 2003 many years ago and a simple phone call told me that it was fine to go ahead.
Anyway, the question was possible & can, which is yes. All of them will work without any hassle. Munch1, if you are worried about licensing, feel free to give them a call and explain in detail what you are planning to do.

The license agreement doesn't spell out such an exception, so it is not allowed.

Wouldn't it qualify as "web server software"? The terms don't specify it has to be http. Just some software serving something on the Web.

It sounds like you need to learn linux there man. If your game-servers can use linux go with it. Normally people get the windows to run a game-server because linux is to hard for them or they are to young to know how to use it.
Windows has a BIG! overhead to it compared to linux.
And Windows web edition lets you run and use anything that needs or uses the internet in any way shape or form.
