Ned a good backup device (RAID alternatives)

I really do not have the money to spend on a RAID-0 plus 2 drives. What would be some good options to ensure a safe solid backup for disaster recovery? I already download weekly backups. So, what else can I do to have another backup solution at hand.
    Thanks,

    RAID IS NOT A BACKUP!

Now that we have that out of the way, are you looking to backup your entire server or just your web site?

Once you tell us what you need to backup, we can help you more, but...

For just your website, you could setup rsync if it's all static, or if you're using a control panel like cPanel you could use it's built in backup feature and backup to a remote FTP server.

If you want to back up the whole server, I would highly recommend R1Soft CDP 3.0. It's wonderful, has an easy to use interface, and is very reliable.

RAID, in the way I used it, was in case one drive fails, the other can take over. Nonetheless, it is too expensive. So, I need to backup my entire server (2 sites). I will look into and see if my host offers R1Soft. Any other options?
    Thanks,

So you were using RAID1...still not a backup solution.

Something shorts out in the server, causing an electrical surge and fries both drives, or even if it doesn't, corrupts the data on both. Now what? That's why RAID is NOT a backup solution.

Who is your host? If they don't offer R1Soft, there's many external providers that do.

I would recommend Raid 1 at minimum along with R1Soft backups. Once again, Raid is not an alternative to backups or vice versa. If you don't mind downtime when a drive fails, you don't require Raid however it does make life easier.

My recommendations are RAID and off-site backups as a minimum. You can always look into software RAID if a RAID card is too expensive.
