I'm excited to challenge what I know about marketing on a near-project. To remain on topic - Great example of facebook/social media marketing here - Props to the Namecheap team. 53,000 likes on facebook, 4.5 out of 5 stars with 1395 reviews on Google.

I would be watching for their next promo to be their 100,000th follower on twitter.

I'm not sure who does social media better in this area really.

They have been doing these type of promotions for almost a year now. I believe I liked their facebook page on the one they did about 8 months ago, and I know they did one about 4 months ago, and I because I already liked the page I couldn't do it again, but for some reason I still received the coupon for the $1.99/yr domain, which was cool..

I think all the users that do like, and have liked the page still get the promotion/coupon, or at least I did for the last time they ran on, I'll find out when this one ends if it meets the requirement. I don't get why this makes them cheap? It's a cool way to promote things and it's like a raffle that hosts do with VPS's for auctions here? I don't get why this is a bad thing..

They are running a promotion... if they get so many likes, they will offer a promotional coupon to everyone that like their facebook page to register a domain at $1.99 the first year, I don't see why this is a bad thing? You even got small providers doing things like this.. "Like my Facebook page and get 50% off your first hosting month". I don't get why this is such a bad thing to promote your business and give back to your clients?

It's still the 5th here for 4 more hours. Where in the world are you? Did you actually get the domain for $1.99? If so, I may connect via a Tor node from somewhere where the date has changed just so I can go ahead and score a domain.

Meanwhile, last night I registered a $2.95 .com with Network Solutions as per a deal I saw on Reddit.

Its 5:30 here in England woke up to register a few domains got slightly distracted. You can only use 1 per domain, so you could make a account use a different (or perhaps the same) Facebook account, and latter push it to your normal account.

Tbh I ended up registering 4 domains with only one in the sale.

I don't know. It was a deal on Reddit, so I just copied the ad link for later. It worked for me the other day, let me know if it still works.

Sadly, not for renewals or transfers (the GoDaddy offer).

The NameCheap one was great, as it worked for everything.

Really? Hmm if I knew it worked for renewals, I'd just renewed my one domain instead of buying another one

I did see a GoDaddy offer for $2.95 a year up to 3 domains and up to 10 years (so one domain @ 10 yrs would be $29.50 + whatever ICANN fee is).

This is the conclusion I made when I decided to sign up anyhow. I just don't like the fact they forced you to have a FB account and willingly allow access to that information. I have no problem releasing that information to any legitimate company, but any time ANY 'app' wants to connect to my Facebook I usually decline in a heartbeat. I'm in the process of getting the contact info of people I actually care about, so I can rid myself of Facebook and stay in touch through other means. Had I done that already, I would of been not able to do this deal.
