Installing cPanel on a CentOS 5 VPS with only SoulsVM Panel atm

    Hello!

I want to install cPanel on a CentOS 5 VPS, but all I got is access to administrator and a SoulsVM Panel...

Can anyone please post a guide or whatever that will install a desktop ( so i can connect and see whats happening instead of just a terminal ).

    Thank you very much!!!

You could use the remote console option.

That, or you could just reset the VPS' root password if you want to use putty?

Do you have a license for Cpanel then JozefM?

You know that you have to pay $425.00 per license buying Cpanel? (thats per year) Thats the reason why it's much cheaper to rent a license from a hosting company.
But as I have told you in the other thread you have, yardVPS.com do not offer Cpanel on any of their VPS plans. So you can't rent it from them.

    Edit:
You have to pay $200 per year for the Cpanel VPS license, so a little cheaper. But still, it's not free.

I am installing it now and I have not paid anything lol

Btw there are lots of threads how to install cPanel and I have not seen anyone said what about license, so i think that you only need license if you are going to rent out.
Only thing I have seen is this : /usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt ( that should activate a license )

Yes the installation can be slow, it can take some time up to 1-2 hours, depends on how much the main server is loaded.

When you install it you get a 15 day free trial. After 15 days, you have to pay. So good luck to you.
They have never give away cpanel for free. Why do you think people pay $10-15/mo extra for Cpanel on their VPS?

I think Webmin is free and it's for Linux. And I also think Kloxo is free.

I have not used them, and don't know how good they are. But I will try them out this week.

Is it worth installing cPanel and set it up for 15 days then switch to Kloxo ?

I had not done thats because most control panels needs a "fresh" VPS to be installed on.
So if you have installed another control panel, you will have problems trying to install another CP.
But you have already started the installation of Cpanel?

I have found out that you can rent your own Cpanel VPS license for $15/mo from HostDime...

How did your control panel installation go? Did you see that Cpanel only was a trial?

I have tried installing Kloxo as a CP on my Linix vps today, and it was a pretty fast installation, without to much settings.

My nest plan is to actually setup my test VPS with a real domain, and try hosting some Wordpress sites on it. Only testing of course.

Any other free control panel out here that's better then Kloxo?

I have tested out yet a free Control Panel: Virtualmin.

It's very easy to install, and pretty easy to use. Not very fancy, not as good as Cpanel or Plesk, but it do the job.
I have created several sites using virtualmin, setting up domains, ftp users, databases etc.

I have used Plesk for ever, and Cpanel from time to time. Was sure that a free Control Panel was harder to use. So for Virtualmin

It'd probably be in your best interest to purchase a cPanel license from your host or from a third party vendor. You sought out cPanel for a reason. Many people feel that it's the best and most user friendly control panel for the hosting industry.
