csf and solusvm
CSF can be put on the server is installed SolusVM?
On the master? You could, but its pointless
1) You should have nothing running except solusvm for security
2) SolusVM has its own hijack/bruteforce and IP whitelisting functions.
I think there is no need to install CSF on nodes. Better you setup a gateway for ssh access of nodes by blocking ssh access from everywhere else and install CSF on gateway server.

How necessary is CSF? Do you think this should be something that is always installed on a VPS?

Normally csf is installed in vps instead of nodes to enhancing the security.
