Looking for VPS suggestions for Development

    Hello,

I tried looking around but I'm very unfamiliar with VPS services and am not really sure what specs I would need. Here's what I would like to run on my VPS:

    -25 slot Ventrilo Server
-Minecraft Server capable of handling 5-8 players
    -Email
-Webhosting for a small social website I'm developing for my friends and I (also will need to stream video)
    -Subversion

If someone would like to help me out with their boundless knowledge and experience it would be greatly appreciated. As far as price is concerned I'm not sure what VPS pricing is like but if possible I would like to keep it around $30/month. Thanks!

EDIT - I'm sorry I should mention I'm looking for a location in Southern California, preferably LA if available~

What you are asking for would require something decent in power. I don't think that the $30 would cut it.

Do you want this VPS fully managed? Any control panel? Specific location?

Unmanged is fine, I'm more than comfortable with a console Something in socal would be best, preferably in Los Angeles.

If necessary I can live without a minecraft server and stick with my current host - I'm just looking to consolidate as much as I can in one place

that good and simplify your server management as well

From our experience, at least 1 ~ 1.5GB RAM and two cores to run this at entry level.

Alright, just out of curiosity what is the most intensive task I'd be running - I imagine serving up streaming video is pretty demanding no?

    Also any recommendations on hosts?

Don't use an OpenVZ-based VPS for Minecraft.

Minecraft alone is resources consuming, now you want to include ventrilo, email + website as well.[/QUOTE]

Most of the people now a day don't like to run Minecraft under OpenVZ, including host themselves.

I would have to agree, XEN is the way to go and really the only ideal way to go when hosting minecraft but you will need a higher end VPS if you want to host all that stuff I can imagine.
