Pointing a domain at a website on my VPS
Hi guys,
I have a domain name (mechanicaldesigndirectory.com) that I have registered using one company "Accomplish Hosting".
I want this domain to point to a website I have created on my VPS (provided by a different company - "Easyspace"). Here is the preview of that website:
https://62.233.104.149:8443/siteprev...directory.com/
(by the way, the preview probably won't work at the moment unless you modify your hosts file)
I am having difficulty making the domain point to the website. I have tried changing the nameservers to:
"ns1.namecity.com" and "ns2.namecity.com" (the Easyspace nameservers) but it hasn't worked. There are no other settings I can change (please see the attached screenshot)
Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Should I be using the IP address as a nameserver or something like that?
Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Register child name servers for your domain that point to the IP of your VPS.
Then set your domain to use those name servers and it will resolve (assuming its on a dedicated IP and accessible directly via http://ip.address/)
Or you could use a DNS hosting service to host the A records to point to the VPS.█| Galaxy Web Solutions Ltd

For one, you need to start by adding the proper NS entries into mechanicaldesigndirectory.com.

One the server where you're hosting the DNS, you need to edit the zone file for your domain.
If you are using a panel like cPanel, look for a page call "Edit DNS Zone."
From there, you need to edit your domain's zone and add the NS records:
ns1.mechanicaldesigndirectory.com
ns2.mechanicaldesigndirectory.comSajan Parikh - PHP Development | Server Management | Linux Administration | Web Consulting

You look good to go. Those warnings should be addressed if possible.
A cheap way around the IP and autonomous systems warning is to ask your provider for an IP on a different subnet and use that for ns2.
Your SOA serial number should be a date with an incremental number at the end.
YYYYMMDDnn
You set it each time you make a change, so you change the date and add 1 to the 'nn'.
So if today was the first time you set this up, the serial would be...
2012022201
Then if you make a change next month...

licensinglinks:
The NS records are reporting but the nameservers are still not returning A records. You can add two more records in Plesk to correct this. Here are directions on how to do this in Plesk:
- Log into Plesk as your admin user.
- Click Domains on the left.
- Click on the domain you wish to work with from the list of domains setup on the server.
- Click on the icon for DNS Settings.
- Using the Add Record icon add the following four records:
ns1.mechanicaldesigndirectory.com A <P Used For Nameserver Setup>
AND
ns2.mechanicaldesigndirectory.com A <IP Used For Nameserver Setup>
When complete, click Update to save your DNS changes.
Once these changes are made your DNS should properly report.
