I think uptime, price, and support, are no-brainers. Who doesn't view these as important? If you don't have great uptime, support, and price, you simply won't last.
What sets VPS providers apart in this saturated market is features, imo. How about a custom, unique VPS panel rather than swim in the sea of SolusVM? How about automated backups that customers can sign up for as an add-on service? How automated is everything? Do I have to contact support every time I want to change rDNS or upgrade/downgrade packages? How about additional options like full management? Are cPanel and DirectAdmin offered for reasonable prices?
You get where I'm going. These days, all you see from hosts are those who have a server, slap on SolusVM and call it a VPS business. This same business template is recycled over and over again to it's getting stale. Anyone can write copy that says, "We're the best!" but few ask themselves, "How am I the best?" To me, it's with innovation and features. If you're thinking about starting a VPS business, don't be one of those hosts.

This. I think people forget how hard it is to start companies which are extremely successful (think INC500[0]).
If you want to do well, bring something new to the table. It's not just about having more RAM or a lower price. In the end, the companies which prevail are the ones which combine hard work and technical smarts to push services that people need.~ @PreetamJinka

Well as you've correctly understood i am working on setting up a VPS Hosting Company.
I totally agree that these three are the most important ones and the ones that the majority of investment is needed. Support however is quite tricky as i would want to avoid outsourcing support to India for example.
In regards to a custom VPS Panel, this is probably something that a new vps hosting wouldn't do from the beginning - SolusVM offers the majority of the features at least - this being said HyperVM is opensource so i can't see any reason why not to take HyperVM for the base and improve on it - HyperVM lacks some important features like IPv6 for example so "out-of-the-box" HyperVM can't really be used from what i have concluded after my research - probably something for me to investigate.
About automated backups definitely in a different DC than the VPS is a good idea which i have also been thinking.
Everything needs to be as automated as much possible as at the end of the day this reduces support tickets.
I can definitely understand what you are saying.

Absolutely correct, definitely I'll be bringing two things that are unique to the market.
Starting a successful company is hard work and of course you need to be dedicated 100% on this. Anyone can get a server, install openvz and sell VPS's but the successful companies will spend time on tweaking everything, testing everything, ensuring uptime and quality of service are at the highest level.

I think what we need more of are quality providers that are selling a product more than a brand. Budget providers are a dime a dozen. Providers pretending to rise above the norm and charging barely more than budget providers are plentiful. Providers pretending almost to be selling an entirely different product because of the way they brand it and then charging excessively higher prices are interesting, and there are a few floating around (not that they aren't good).
What I want to see more of are providers that are honest, to the point, only overselling within acceptable parameters, and aiming to balance cost and uptime. Sounds simple, but after a while you start to think it's a dying breed.

niche-marketing is defiantly great while the niche is thriving, but that could change on a moments notice for any/many reasons, then what have you got?
6 years ago I was very heavily in a niche, 14 months ago I was barley surviving as that niche died off, or had run it's course and put almost all my effort into VPS hosting and the LEB segment of the market, I've rebounded to where I was pre-Obama, and still growing, but you have to be nimble it seems on top of it all.Hostigation.com - High Resource Hosting

Uptime and excellent customer service has to be high on the list, then features, and finally price which shouldn't be as important. You should be getting what you pay for an all that.
