developing webpage using ,jsp java coding, site will have streaming video, host help?
Hello,
I have never had a website hosted by anyone, and am fairly new to web programming. I have mostly finished a website that streams videos that I make using eclipse, .jsp pages, and tomcat for testing it on my own machine.
Now I am not sure how to find a webhost that meets my needs. I have done a lot of searching, it seems a lot of the providers are not java or .jsp compatible. Is .jsp a bad choice if I will potentialy be needing to stream quite a big of video?
My videos are between 100-150 megabytes in size. I could foresee 10,000+ videos being streamed from my site per month eventually. I guess I need a webhost that provides J2EE or tomcat servers for it to be compatible with .jsp pages, that is my understanding at least.
I used this site to measure my mbps needs a bit, not able to post links with my post count yet. If I had 1000 mbps I am sure it would be enough, I am not sure if 100 is iffy. Maybe my math is off, a host that would allow me to start with 100 and upgrade at some point would be ideal.
20gb of disc space should be fine for me, I am thinking my main concern is bandwidth and mbps speed. I am wanting to stream videos from my site instead of allowing downloads to dissuade/prevent people from stealing my videos. Also, videos will only become available after the user has signed up for my site.
Can anyone recommend a good webhost to meet my needs, or let me know if I am going about this video issue all wrong. I was doing a little reading about clipbucket to see if it would meet my video hosting needs but to be honest I don't really understand exactly what clipBucket is and how it communicates with my website.
Right now my site has everything but the login functionality, I already have it steaming videos that I am hosting on my own computer, I did this all without any java programming really, so I guess I could be flexible to switch to php or something else. I don't know much about php and .asp might be too costly. My site just has html and javascript thus far. Sorry for the rambling post, I'm off to the gym hopefully this thread will get a few bites.

I think you can get a quality vps server and configure Tomcat on it directly.
