How to check what kind of disk host is providing?
I am new to VPS and Linux, therefore got myself a managed VPS.
The host advertises they are using 15k rpm disk, but how can I check it?
Also, when I go to WHM, on the top right, load average figures are given. Are those for my VPS or for the whole server (host)?
Thanks

Hi,
Hardware can be abstracted based on virtualization used. What kind of VPS are you using (Xen, KVM, OpenVZ)?
Load figures are for your VPS in case of KVM or XEN.

The virtualization used is OpenVZ.
So for OpenVZ, the load figures are for the whole server?
And also, how can I abstract the hardware data on OpenVZ?

No, they're for your VPS only, although other containers can affect the load shown in your VPS. For example, if another container on the same node is abusing the disk.
I wouldn't get too caught up with what disks the host is using. Any reputable host will ensure adequate performance for each VPS. That being said, if 15k SAS is the main reason why you chose them, then you just have to take their word for it.

Thanks guys for the information.
I have another question. Say the load average figures shown in WHM is 3 - 3 - 3
And my server specification is :
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3440 @ 2.53GHz
Quad core with hyperthreading (i.e. virtual 8 cores)
Are the load figures something to be worried about?

Honestly, unless your application really requires high I/O sec, you should not worry to much about the backend storage (as long as it has got a RAID10 configuration at least).
Almost any virtualization system can throttle the assigned I/O per VPS, so you will most likely always have decent performance.▌FlareVM.com: Affordable and flexible European Xen VPS
