Give us file hosting, we give you advertising

Hello my name is Matt Cameron, I own and operate a hardware review site called, OverclockersClub.com. I'm searching for a company or individual that can host our downloads that we have in our Download Center (http://overclockersclub.com/downloadcenter). We currently have someone that is hosting it, but they have moved us to and from about 4 different servers in the past month because (I'm guessing, bandwidth issues). Now, it appears they have throttled our bandwidth and users can only download at 10kb/sec. Our agreement was for it to be unthrottled.

Anyway, the proposal I have is:
You host our files on your server. We need a static IP if possible. We request that the files be hosted via a webserver and not an FTP. This way, we can filter out bandwidth thieves that directly link to our files. This saves your company bandwidth, and us from loosing hits. We are currently using about 600Gb of bandwidth a month, and this number is expected to grow. Clearly, you will need to have us hosted on an unmetered server for you to profit from this advertising.

For hosting our files, you will get a few types of advertising campaigns for free. One, you will get a banner on our Download Center pages. You can go to http://overclockersclub.com/downloadcenter and see what the current banner looks like. You will also get a "static" 125x125 banner which will be displayed on everypage of our site, but the forums. We will also give your company a dynamic 468x60 banner, which will appear both on our site and in the forums.

Here are some of our latest stats:

Users:

35% overclockers
65% non-overclockers

85% hardcore computer enthusiast
15% average computer users

Traffic:

72% from the USA
8% from other countries
8% from Australia
5% from Canada
4% from UK
2% from Netherlands
1% from Sweden

212,528 (up 12%) unique visitors last month from over 148 countries.

If you are interested, please email me at matt@overclockersclub.com

Basically you want 600GB of bandwidth for free. Are you high or something? Do you happen to realize that GB does not grow on trees and that every GB of bandwidth is actually PAID by the host? Gee some people just make me pee my pants.

ROFL @ Jim -- Good points guy, but that peeing your pants caused me to choke on my soda.

Guess I better sign off now and clean my keyboard before that soda dries!

Oh yeah Matt, you should have posted this in the webhosting request forum section. Might want to shoot one of the mods a PM and ask them to move it there for ya.

Good Luck in your hunt!

so sweet asking for so much free bandwidth then saying we'll make sure we limit extra bandwidth on top of that like you're not asking for too much already.

Re

Unmetered does not = UNLIMITED Bandwidth. My suggestion is breakdown and sell advertising and buy a rackshack server. It appears you will not need CPanel / WHM for basic file hosting and it will be probably your cheapest solution.

my thoughts as well, get 100 bucks from your advertising and get a server at fdc, no person here is gonna give you that unless advertising will, no matter what, generate more money then hosting you.

I mean he claims to get an average of 200 000 visitors a month. Then use your brain: add a popup that will earn you something like $2CPM, 200 000 = 200 X $2 CPM = $400 = more than enough to buy a dedicated server with all the BW you need. I just don't get how some people manage to have 200 000 people a month and just make no money with it.

Thanks for the comments, input is welcome. We have already had two companies host our files in the past and it has went well. Our last hosting provider has sorta went down hill as I have said. I have gotten one email so far, so I may not need the topic moved. However, if a mod could move it, II would appreciate it.

We currently have two servers already at RS. One is for our main site and our sister site. That server only has 400Gb of bandwidth a month and we are at 380Gb a month. The other server is where we host our mysql databases, some images, and a game server. That server is using about 280Gb a month.

I really don't want to manage another server, which is why we have someone host our files on their server.

Thanks

-Matt

We would never put our users in that situation. I hate when I go to a site that has popups, so I'm not going to put our users thru that. Also, most of our users are computer geeks, computer geeks with popup stoppers.

We have several advertisers right now and I could buy several more servers from RS. However, if I can continue to barter hosting for banner space, I'll do that.

And putting yourself in the situation of asking for free 600GB? How do you call that? Come on be realistic, a popup won't kill your users, and if you don't like popups just use an alternative, there's plenty pf CPC or CPM programs out there for you to use. Asking for that amount of BW for free is just not realistic and he makes you look bad. I'm sure you're a nice fellow but still the first thing I expect from someone is for that person to be realistic and down to earth.

I understand its a LOT of bandwidth, but if it's so unrealistic how come we have had a company host our downloads for a year and a half for advertising?

We aren't asking for free hosting. You will get advertising for the hosting, and if you check our advertising rates you will see that it isn't free.

hmm long run= year and a half, that company is going down hill, hmm possibly from advertising with you doesn't bring in $$$$$ so therefore "in the long run" its not worth it at all....

Actually no. He had to sell his little hosting company because he went in to the hospital with cancer.

Poor thing. That breaks my heart. I like it when people try to BS me with some unrealistic request and explanation.
