    what do you think?

What's the future of online advertising? Are banners here to stay or do you think those annoying exit-popups will be dominating?

What do you like as a visitor, and what would you consider choosing if you were to start a campaign as an advertiser?

Hope you'll share your point of views and your experiences as to what works best and gives best results!

    Cheers!

I think that exit-popups sucks. Banners are ok as long as they don't hurt my eyes
    As a visitor : Banners
    As an advertiser : Banners.

Advertising in Sticks' signature is the wave of the future.

As a visitor I don't like any advertising, but then again I don't like subscription based services. A banner ad may get my attention occassionally, but that's rare. If I get a pop-up I make a mental note in my head to never use that company advertised and to dissuade others from using them.

If I get an email message, then they will never be used.

If they use a banner ad that looks like something like a windows warning, I will never use them.

If a banner ad tells me I'm the 17432678432678 visitor and won something, I will never use them.

I will only use honest companies that use honest advertising. Anything intrusive or with buzzwords will never be touched and will be immediately boycotted.

That said, I suppose ads will only get more intrusive. I remember a couple of months back a friend of mine had AOL service. They were having a problem with their service so I called their tech support.

After limited help by hapless techs I decided to go ahead and end the call and fix it myself. The TECH started giving me a sales pitch.

Advertising will only get more and more intrusive as crap companies realize that no one is interested in their services.

I also don't like those new ads walk on the site (made by flash)
going from left to right , right to left. those flash ads suck too.

yep, they're not there because posts in the advertising forums don't count towards your post count anymore.

The actual content is still there though.

I think the future, once people realize it and you get rid of all those flashy casino and YOU WON! advertisements will be the integration and almost seamless look. Meaning, you get targeted advertisers who design a banner or ad that actually goes with the site they are advertising on. If it looks like it is part of the site, people are more willing to click on it. Right now, visitors are trained to ignore super bright colors, flashing banners, etc...

I know this more customized advertising approach isn't the most efficient way to do things, but once all of the flashy ads fail and their companies go bankrupt, people will begin to evaluate the much more targeted approach. But that is just my opinion.

The future of online advertising is ugly. And that's the truth. CNet has recently published an article on mouse-over pop-ups, which work like this: every time you see this pop-up and if you try and close it, but go over the banner with a mouse - it will automatically open the advertiser's web site... It is unbelievable!

I guess pop-up kill-software will be even more popular in the future. Can you kill pop-ups simply by diabling javascript?
