Why does my server clock/time keep changing back?

I changed the time and every 24 hours it automatically resets to 2 hours earlier. NTPD is not running on the server so why does it keep changing the time back automatically?

    chasebug,

Is the time changing or just the timezone you are seeing the time displayed in changing?

Are you 100% sure that you have direct hardware and not a KVM?

I didn't change the timezone, just the time. Why is it keep changing the time back? I am connected by SSH to change the time.

Guessing: It's a cPanel/WHM server, top left bit of WHM's menu you've got it set to a time zone 2 hours adrift of where you want it, and it's syncing every 24 hours to what's set rather than what you want

No there is no control panel on this server. Isn't NTPD the only service I need to stop for the server to stop syncing? Why does the time keep resetting?

You must be in a Virtual Server and not on a dedicated server.

check dmesg or lsmod and see if you're inside of a KVM.

I know I had a client that their HN was out of sync time wise and it was making the customer VM's 'adjust' their time every few hours - 24 hours. The clients had NTP but it couldn't fix it.

Syncing the HN addressed the issue fully.

How do I check if it is inside of KVM or not? I have many servers with this provider all of them same specs and only this one server is having this problem.

    Hello,

Since you are just changing "time" and not the "timezone", it seems the hardware clock gets reset to the default timezone. Have you tried changing the timezone and rebooted?

If not, would suggest doing that.

If it is a problem you just started to notice, it is probably related to Daylight Saving Time.

For example in the US, DST had began on the first Sunday in April for nearly 20 years...until 2007 when it was decided that it should instead begin on the 2nd Sunday in March. Consequently, operating systems (and perhaps some user-mode software that ignore the OS time management facilities) published prior to the change will need a patch or some sort of update to get them in sync with the revised schedule.
