what is the differents between a delicated server and a virtual server?
what is the differents between a delicated server and a virtual server?
Does virtual server has restriction too? nocster selling a package which is 5 gig space with 300 gigs bandwidth, a good deal. Do you think is worth buying it?

Dedicated Server: You basically have full control over the server, its full resources and such. It's as good as having your own machine.
Virtual Server: This means that the resources of the server is shared among a few people. This servers are usually created by the use of software which allocates resources and give you an amount of dedicated resources (but less than a full server). This still give you full access over your own virtual server and you can still pretty much do anything (just that it's lesser resources)

can I say that virtual server is very much better than a shared servers because the resource is only shared among a few people not like shared server that shared among so many users.
so normally how many people within a virtual server?
Since if virtual server is so muct better than shared hosting why many people still choose shared hosting?

HiHi~
My answers:
1. Virtual servers are expensive than shared hosting
2. PPL do not know how to run a server, so they prefer to have shared hosting
Good Bye~

Yes.. and 1 more to add.... shared server may also not necessarily give you less resources... cos on offpeak times, you may have most of the resources to yourself with is a lot more than what you can get with Virtual servers.
It's just like why people prefer to get a 100mbit burstable bandwidth instead of a dedicated 10mbit port.. not the best example.. but close.. it can handle peaks better probably.

If your site requires it and generates a suitable profit, then go ahead and buy a dedicated server, it will be better for you and your clients, otherwise if you can manage with just a shared host or a Virtual Prvate Server then use that instead.

Is your budget still $10/mo?
Even for a managed dedicated server?

Types of Hosting: Broadly speaking, there are 2 types:
Shared servers and dedicated servers.
As is apparent, for a dedicated server, you get to install the server OS/software etc as per your overall scheme. On the other hand, it involves hiring a professional System administrator to oversee all the installation and maintainance. He will be responsible for upgradation of installed modules and software patches, apart from being the center of your company's security policy. If you anticipate exceptionally large volume of traffic to your site or desire an ecom website totally secure and under your control, you will have to chose this option. Likely to be the most expensive hosting option. Shared hosting implies that you share your server space with others. If your site serves lots of dynamically generated pages using server-side scripts or use plenty of database content, you will need to accomodate them within your allotted slice of CPU/memory/bandwidth resource limits. Or your host can throw you out without a warning. Your codes need to be optimized and throughly tested before they are uploaded for the same reason. On the positive side, your outlay can be minimal compared with the dedicated hosting option.
So it boils down to this. What kind of website are you running ? How much are you willing to pay for it ? How much are you getting out of it ? Answer these questions in the light of what has been given above, you will be closer to it.

I just looked at Nocster Virtual Hosting and the package you quoted (5 gig space + 300 gigs bandwidth) is listed as virtual hosting or shared hosting. It is not a virtual private server.
Thus the difference between dedicated server and virtual hosting applies here.
With the Dedicated server, you have full control over the server and you can install any programs you like in there.
As for the Shared Hosting, you do not have full access but you get added benefit probably include more technical support and you have most of the things set up for you. One advantage is this free weekly backup, shared SSL certificate, Java Servelet. You do not need to worry too much about securing or administering the server since there are tech support for that.
As for costing, the Dedicated Server (typically $299.95) has a higher set up charge compared to this virtual hosting ($9.95). The major component in cost is in the bandwidth probably that explains the $99.95 pricing for both the virtual and dedicated server.
