Hi everyone,

I've been doing a lot of reading and searching to find a new payment processor to expand beyond PayPal (we do hosting). After checking a lot of threads and review here, I'm pretty much down to InternetSecure or Merchant-Accounts.ca, but they make you sign a 3 years contract with a hefty cancellation fee... Are those my only 2 viable options? Any inputs from experienced Canadian merchants would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Mr. Alchemist (cool handle!) - if you have a concern about the contract term I can help you with it. Depending on the sponsoring institution, they almost always want a 3 year term. However, we represent a lot of accounts and I and I can help you with the term. I'm sure you have my contact details or one of my staff. Get in touch with whoever you were working with and they can help you with it. You don't have to be overly afraid of the term, but it's good that you are doing your due diligence and paying attention to important things like that.

Also a very good alternative is http://www.merchantplus.com/ they have been in business for long and very professional to work with

It's kind of funny to endorse a competitor of ours, especially when we are competing for your business, but Beanstream are one of the few e-commerce processors that have been around as long as us - over 10 years.

There aren't many processors in Canada that have specialized in e-commerce for as long as either of our organizations. If you have it down to us or them, either way you go you will be in good shape. It means you've done some good research!

I am curious to know what rate they quoted, but I think you are on the right track now, no matter where you end up.

You're a little confused. Beanstream is just the gateway, you're seeing gateway fees. They'll se you up with FDR Canada for the actual merchant account, and THEY determine the processing rates. Don't get me wrong, Beanstream is a great Canadian gateway--FDR Canada I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy however. I still think David at merchantacconts.ca is your best bet. If you MUST use Beanstrem, here's our affiliate URL that goes thru Beanstream offering better numbers if you qualify for them

Yeah I saw that once I started reading the whole site... I also think merchant-accounts.ca is still my best option.

@David: Thanks for your great business attitude, it helped a lot in making me choose Merchant-Accounts. I'm going to deposit NUANs in about a month, might take a while since we're in Quebec but you'll hear from me in the very near future!

Personally, I'd recommend internetsecure (realize I'm late!).
We've used them for 5+ years without issue.
