I can't find an E3-1240 with 32gb of ram

hi guys im looking at the dedicated server offers and I cant find a provider that currently offers the E3-1240 with 32gb of ram

i know its due to the very high price of 8gb sticks for this processor but no any provider is currently selling it? really?

32Gb worth of memory more than doubles the price of the machine. Would you be willing to pay 2x-3x as much per month for the same server with 32GB RAM vs 16GB? Most providers rightly assume 'no', and are waiting for prices to drop.

Am sure any provider offering the E3-1240 would be willing to fill the server full of RAM for you if of course your willing to pay for it...

Any estimate of when the prices are dropping?

I know you can go on superbiiz.com and get 24gb for $220 so 32gb would be all that much. I am sure a good provider would charge about $60-80/m for this.\

I am sure you can contact any provider and ask for such an upgrade. IOflood has lots of e3 dedicated servers and as far as I remember Gabriel mentioned that they start to consider 8Gb modules for E3 usable for hosting. I am sure if you will talk to him, he will get it for you. Look for funkywizard here on WHT.

The big issue here is the E3 requires unbuffered ECC RAM. The modules you linked above are registered, so they won't work, unfortunately.

Swiftway just posted a thread in the offer section advertising the E3-1240 with 32GB of RAM. I've never used them, so I cant say how good they are or not, but it could be worth checking out:

Correct and you also need Dual Rank. We have some with Kingston and some with Black Diamand RAM running with 32GB (E3-1230). Supertalent also has modules which should work.

We've used the Super Talent ones with pretty good success.

The best price I was able to find on unbuffered ecc 8gb was $135 for supertalent on ewiz. There was an ebay seller selling them cheaper but it turned out to be a typo.

That's not all that bad given hdd prices at the moment.

But yes it's probably easier just to get 2x 16GB servers.

At $110 per 8gb is the price to gun for. At $110 per 8gb, an E3-1230 / 32gb server costs the same to build as a 32gb X3470 server. Even at $135, that's pretty good because it only costs $100 more to build an E3-1230 32gb than it costs to do an X3470 32gb. At the $160-200 per 8gb ram that is typical, it's really not worth doing a 32gb E3 server.

Most of my customers who do 32gb configurations go for the x3470 and don't find the 3440 quite fast enough for their needs, so I find the x3470 / E3-1230 comparison the most relevant here.

Ask a host if they can custom build a server for you.

Out of curiosity, what server is that Registered ECC 3x8GB RAM good for?
