    defconservers bizarre problems

hi i rented a game server out of seattle with this company and they gave me a server that says colocrossing.with a bit of investigation it appears that a company called colocrossing is supplying another called velocity servers who then supply defcon servers with a database or whatever you call it in seattle.well something isnt right here any theories? defon servers wont answer any support tickets i give them.

I am not sure why Defcon is not replying nor will I comment on that, but ColoCrossing is a company that specializes in dedicated servers and co-location.

They also own a few other companies like Velocity servers which under that brand they offer game servers.

Many game providers work with ColoCrossing to house their equipment or rent their hardware. I believe I have been with them a year now and you would be surprised at how many of the big game providers work with them to do the same.

I hope you didn't take to much time looking into this, cause nothing is wrong with this.

point is colocrossing NY is supplied when they claim that the server is out of seattle.if colocrossing is supplier and they have the ability to give me my game out of seattle then why is it out of new york city?

Actually, you made no mention of that in your original post.

The issue is with Defcon and nothing to do with Colo unless since their HQ is out of NY that is where the IP range is pointing to. I believe I have seen that kind of issue with Burst with their LA location.

ColoCrossing doesn't rent out game servers to providers who then sell it. Defcon most likely is located there using Colocrossing to house their equipment.

I wont comment anymore nor can anyone on the mix up with ordering a server to be Seattle and it ending up in NY or it being a IP issue. Only Defcon can say what happened in regards to that. I can only speculate.

Defcon is a great gameserver company. Basically they use a number of dedicated or colo providers around the country and only on solid networks. They do a pretty good job of never having overloaded servers and making sure the networks perform well.

The IP is likely as tynman says allocated to the head office of a colo provider but physically located in Seattle. I VERY highly doubt that they would say it is in Seattle but have the server in NY. Traces could easily prove that though.

If Defcon is your provider I am sure they physically have access to the base hardware and are managing it themselves. What is the ip and we can help prove it is in Seattle but NO WAY they would resell another gameserver provider unless something very dramatic has changed. They are a premium provider and a TCADMIN master reseller.

traceroute shows some routers with DNS records implying ord (airport code for OHare), which would lead me to believe it's in Chicago? Weird.

Also, scnet.net is not a backbone transit provider, but rather a single data center colo provider. In Chicago.

The geolocation information may be incorrect. Arin's whois shows the IPs parent as being server central, which is in Chicago. http://whois.arin.net/rest/net/NET-205-234-128-0-1.html

Can't speak for the 24/7 support though.

Edit: Oops, the Arin link is for the IP of the website apparently... ignore that.

Also, maybe ask for a refund before complaining to Visa. It's less paperwork for everyone.

Don't dispute just work with them. You have to understand my reluctance here. As an organization I have worked with them both as a former supplier and as a former customer.

It is inconceivable to me that they would either lie about where the services are or intentionally ignore you. Maybe it is a holiday thing I don't know but I understand your frustration.
