hi all Wht Forum
last night i was installed ELS via SSH with a putty
duration installation i had a wrong config !
ichanged my port from 22 to *** and i changed my root user to ****
and now connection between whm and ssh is disconect and when i changed password root at whm my password does not work on the ssh
and on the ssh i wanna do every think or run every command i see this problem'

i open ticket for my datacenter and them tolled to me :
we can not help to you only we can open Kvm for you ( i can not work with kvm ) or reformat your server and i have not back up

have you tried logging in using your previous password in SSH.. Maybe ELS has hardened direct root login so you have to use another user to login to SSH. I havent used this product.

Failing that - you could use KVM to get into single user mode - and reset the root password that would get you into root and then you can look at the sshd_config.

Your host should be able to help you with this - you probably would have to pay them for some admin time.

If your locked out and you cant login via SSH with old/new/combo of details.. then it would need to be reset.
This would require KVM access or be done by your host to reset the root password in single user mode and from there the ssh lockout can be undone - you would need to speak to your host or get a 3rd party tech to perform same.

Looking at easy linux security script by server monkeys - which looks like what you have used?

"Add wheel user and disable direct root login over SSH" - so root is disabled - so you would need to login via SSH as your new non-priviledged user and password..

from the user prompt you can then use the command

su -l

then your root password and then you have root access.
