FedEx guy throws computer monitor over fence
Quote:
FedEx has vowed to track down the deliveryman who was caught on video carelessly tossing a computer monitor over a fence during a delivery.
Company spokeswoman Shea Leordeanu would not say what would become of the employee once they find him, but added: 'This won't be his best day.'
The hilariously sad clip of a FedEx delivery man chucking the computer monitor has attracted nearly 200,000 viewers on YouTube in a single day, many of whom expressed fears that their holiday packages would be treated with the same regard.

Now thats a nice way to deliver fragile items. The video has already gone viral and received 1,700,000+ views in a couple of days. I wonder how much it will hurt FedEx in terms of business

Well, they could turn that into a marketing gag where they make a commercial out of that..."We deliver on time, no matter what."

Whenever I ask airline checkin counter to stick fragile stickers, I wonder do they really handle with care?

That's a good one.
I saw one of a UPS guy that chucked a box about 20 feet to a door.

Video I saw once showed handlers throwing bags like that around just like all the others. Use extra bubble wrap.

I know what you mean. My UPS guy knocks once or twice really fast and is gone by the time I can get to the door. I usually RUN to the door to try and catch him, and he'll run back to have me sign. The funny thing is he's usually upset about it. It's like they don't want you to make it to the door so they can just rush on to the next door.

Our regular UPS guy is actually great (I currently live in a tiny town in a tiny county, so unless he's on holiday it's always the same guy), but if there's a replacement or if it's a FedEx delivery, someone actually has to sit downstairs and wait for it because in the time it takes to run down one flight of stairs they're gone.

I actually have a buddy who is a driver for UPS. He told me what the guys in the warehouse do, especially around holiday season. Let's just say they do NOT care about the well being of your shipped goods.

Finnaly someone dared to do throw a fragile package.
Actually he followed the company slogan "We deliver on time, no matter what".

same here
I actually called the company, had them have the local office call me back about this, because he's left $450+ packages just laying on the front porch. Their response?

That is standard policy. I can have you placed on a 'signature required' list if you like
|
Needless to say, I'm on that list. This shouldn't be required though. These guys should start doing their jobs and stop racing to the finish line, which they're doing by just dropping the packages and leaving.

You really shouldn't blame the drivers. A lot of them have WAY too many packages to deliver (friend of mine is a driver here in Houston) and they simply don't have time to stand around at every single drop off. They have to meet the quota and empty their trucks every single day.
Also, a lot of people complain that they DON'T leave stuff at the door. Most people are extremely impatient these days, so they want everything immediately. Most of the shipping companies and USPS used to never leave valuable things on the door step, but people have complained so much of missing deliveries they're doing it now.
Fortunately I am friends with my local mail man from USPS. He always waits for me to come to the door and we usually chat for a few minutes. He only leaves stuff if he knows it's not an expensive piece of hardware or something like that. He will also come back a second time if I don't answer on his way back. That's why I prefer to use the USPS over UPS. Not to mention all the horror stories I've heard of employees intentionally destroying packages at UPS warehouses. (seriously, I've been told some of the guys intentionally crush expensive packages, especially around the holidays.)

I am sure this kind of thing varies. You have your warehouses/places where they don't toss things. Then you have the warehouses where they do toss things. I've worked at a few shipping warehouses/places and have seen it go both ways...
With that said, sadly knowing how the majority of everything these days seems to be leaning towards apathy and not caring then the majority of companies will toss your stuff AND drop it (drop kick it).
So package it good. very good.

Then they need to work faster, as opposed to just dropping off expensive packages and leaving them on the porch.
I kid you not, half the time they didn't even bother to KNOCK, they just left the packages on the porch. I don't really care about quotas, that's not my concern. My concern is my $450+ packages that these idiots have zero respect for.
