WordPress to Forum Conversion?

I have a wordpress blog. I'm wondering if it is possible to convert it to a forum? Any forum software is fine. The categories in WP would be the forum sections and posts in the categories would need to be the threads in the forum sections.

Anyone know if this is possible at all? I doubt it is, but worth a shot to see if anyone else knows something I don't.

I don't know if this will work, but you can try Mingle Forum. However, and this totally depends on how big your site is, you could probably just set up the forum sections and copy & paste the threads.

There's some plugins that will make your blog look like a forum. Some themes as well.

This kinda depends on what you'd call a "conversion". If it's a blog, you're the primary creator of the content, and if it's a forum - then it's the members. So, if you are planning on drastically changing the type of the site (and the content creation mode), you might as well just install forum software either alongside the WP or even instead of (if the blog wasn't that big).

But if all you want to do is to have better organizing of replies in the comments so they look more forum-like, i.e. it's easier to tell who replied to who's comment, you don't really need to "convert" anything. Just look for a better comment plugin. There are a ton of them on WP plugins page: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/comments

A blog system isn't really designed to support multiple topic and large discussion. Forum software believe it or not is designed to work well as a forum. ^.^

phpBB and vBulletin are the top two I would recommend.

Check out http://www.softaculous.com/softwares/forums for some more info. There are plenty of free plug-ins, templates and tutorials on most forum software and I'm sure you could have one set-up in a couple of minutes.
