Looking for the best ultra high performance server...
I've tried GigenetCloud and I am thinking of switching as they cannot support my needs and also, I need to let them know that my servers are down instead of them letting me know. I think my server receives too many SQL connections at once so it timesout... the tech guys never offered to help me fix the problem... I don't mind paying.
Could someone kindly recommend a ultra high performance server that can handle a high traffic website (~ currently 2 million impressions a day but need a server that can handle up to 5 million in the future)? My websites are built on WordPress and we all know how inefficient WP can get. I will also need managed hosting as I have some knowledge but I need someone to guide me.
What do you guys think of Rackspace?
Budget is preferably < $500/month.

Rackspace should be a good candidate but I think it might be important to review your architecture and see if you need to split the web and database servers. Also you should look at the performance optimization of database (indexing etc)

You're certainly not going to have any trouble achieving what you need with that budget. Rackspace is very good but not very cheap. Doesn't sound like price is something you're concerned about though .
I'm delighted to see that you're seeking a cloud server. What I'd recommend is that you specify a cloud server that can handle 2.5-3 million hits. In the future you can scale it up on demand (that's the whole point isn't it?) and get to a higher number of hits.
For a site with that much traffic I would also recommend considering a cluster of cloud servers, perhaps with multiple front-end servers behind a load balancer. This way you can have redundant SQL and more. This isn't the type of thing that the big box companies like Rackspace will help you with for $500/mo. However you can probably find someone on here that would help you out for that price. You should be able to get quite a bit of bang for that buck.
Good luck with your search!
Dave

Do you need it to be on a cloud (or cloud-like) platform? Or would a normal dedicated server suffice?
For a cloud-like platform, you should try StormOnDemand since they have plenty of bare-metal 8-core servers in the $250-$400/month range.
For a non-cloud server, check out WebNX. They specialize custom server configurations with high amounts of CPU/RAM/Disk for very reasonable prices.

Rackspace may have very good support, but their cloud platform is severely lacking in performance-per-dollar. They charge ~$700/month for 16GB of RAM and 4 opteron cores.

Hello,
We do not just sell cloud servers, we sell dedicated servers as well, infact were more well known for that. We can definitely get you in a beefy server within your budget, have you reached out to sales?

I've complained several times about timeouts and slow performance but no one offered me a solution. Like I said, I don't mind paying and since I'm not a tech guy, I don't know what I need to make the timeouts and the slow performance go away.
Could someone recommend me that can offer what daveg01 suggested?

bradmoore. I would love the opportunity to find out more what happened and have a chance to fix this. Would it be possible for you to send me your account details so we can research this issue and find a solution for you?

I thought that was against the forum rules

Unfortunately the "best ultra high performance server" of today is tomorrows slow piece of crap. I'd look for the latest and greatest in hardware coupled with a data center and management team who can cater to your needs.
I'd contact TSS via sales@totalserversolutions.com and ask about Fusion-io SSD and the latest E3 Xeons.

OP need to fine tune and re engineer his architecture. 2-5M hits per day can be done on cloud servers with load balancer and cluster.

Hello there,
Well, for a good cloud VPS that is faster, and always responsive no matter what, my favorite provider is VMStormVPS.
Although you get a bit little disk space, you can always ask for more and you will be given more.

2-5M hits a day can frankly be done on a single cloud server with good hardware and software stack.

How much bandwidth do you use? If not too much (2 - 3 TB, though at your range, you're probably using more), take a peak at Zunicore.
