We have server from FutureHosting and nginx is installed by their team. However, we have a huge problem - nginx settings keep reverting back to default every few days.


For example, we need to have some custom values is /usr/local/nginx/conf/nginx.conf and /usr/local/nginx/conf/vhost.conf files. We set them, they work, and... revert back to default shortly.


What can be done to prevent this? Please, do not ask us to contact FutureHosting support; we did it for numerous times but they simply change values for us and do nothing to fix the problem, so default values take effect shortly. They simply don't know how to fix the issue (we have it for MONTHS).


W had servers with LiquidWeb with nginx installed and all of them worked fine, but Future Hosting installation is absolutely useless. We are considering to cancel the service, but it will take some time for accounts migration, so maybe there is a solution?

Strange... I'd suggest asking your host how they installed nginx, as this may give some clues to what is going on.
Is this on a dedicated server or VPS?
Have you had a look in the nginx logs?

This is a dedicated server. No errors reported...

You could try 'chattr +i' on the configuration files and keep a close eye on the logs for errors.

Do you have a control panel installed on the server?
(Cpanel / kloxo / DA / ? )

Yes, we have cPanel running (we also had cPanel with LiquidWeb, but it didn't cause any problems for nginx).

LOL, now it's getting funny. Future Hosting increased timeout for us. We asked it to be 300 seconds, they made it unlimited (somehow) and don't know how to revert it back. If they set timeout values back to 300, timeout is still unlimited. They are working all the day on setting it back without any results...

A file with the 'i' attribute cannot be modified: it cannot be deleted or renamed, no link can be created to this file and no data can be written to the file. Only the superuser or a process possessing the CAP_LINUX_IMMUTABLE capability can set or clear this attribute.


I think is obvious what is the problem
