Has anyone had fax spam before?

I've had a toll free 1-800 fax number for over a year now, I've never received spam on it...yesterday, I got a spam fax! Is this common? has anyone else had it?

I think it is fairly rare - I believe there is a federal law that makes fax spam illegal

I don't know the laws down in the US, but here in Canada I get fax spam on a regular basis. I'd say about 15 pages per week. If I open up the phone book, I can see about a dozen companies that offer fax broadcast service. I have to keep calling that stupid number at the bottom of the page to unsubscribe.

Yep... Our company get's fax spam all the time... We just let it go but, I'm fairly sure you can call some government agency and file a useless report..

Basically just throw away all the offers you get for cruises and vacation rentals...

I'm in Canada too, Vito..maybe that accounts for it.

I'm just surprised that it took until now if it is in fact common.

I have my faxes sent to a wireless email device, I was at a restaurant and received a fax notification on my blackberry...I'm expecting some news on some product from Tawain, so I went rushing out to get the fax......only to find it was spam

I know, it was more a reference to NovaW commenting on Federal laws.

I make it a point to know all of the Cdn WHT members... not hard to spot, though. They're the ones that usually make the most sense.

I get it every 1-2 months, I am Canadian as well. It really is annoying. I would rather have some one come to my door and spam me then to get a fax.

Are you in the US?!!!

Junk Fax Law - the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, 47 U.S.C. Section 227

Senders of unsolicited ads for products and services may be liable to the recipient for $500 - $1,500 per fax under a little known federal law. Do not throw away your junk faxes, they could be worth more than their weight in gold.

LOL Vito,

Not sure how old everyone here is, but when this law came out, spam faxes became nearly non-existant.

We still get like 1 or 2 a year, but they just hit the trashcan.

$500 - $1,500 per fax
*homer voice*
mmmmm....

I get ppl trying to fax me all the time on my home number (no fax machine here). I mean ALL the time -- at least once a day.

If I had a regular modem hooked up on my computer, I would let the computer catch the fax... God knows I could use the money! lol

I hate it though.. Pick up the phone... "beep beep beeep" grrr.... and then they keep calling... all day long. DUH! There's no fax machine here! stupid idiots! hehe

$500 - $1,500 per fax though... I'm thinking about getting a 56k modem in my machine... hehe
