300gb UK colo offer - Comments please!!

Hi all,

We will be going live with our new co-location and dedicated server packages next week, and would like to get a good idea for the exact packages we're going to offer.

Here's our proposed main co-lo deal. I would appreciate it if you could take the time to place a quick vote, and post with any comments for us!

- 1U server space in our cabinet (£20/month per extra U)
- 300gb/month bandwidth (extra gb or dedicated bw negotiable)
- 200mbps (full duplex) port on our cisco switch
- unlimited free IPs (subject to justification under RIPE guidelines)
- APC remote reboot port with web/wap/telnet interface
- 99.99% SLA

£199/month + vat

Our rack is in one of the Redbus facilities in London, UK. We currently have a 100mbps dedicated feed from Level3, and will shortly be adding a further 100mbps feed from another Tier 1 provider.

We're planning a set-up fee of £99.99 to cover installation of your server in our rack, all the cables needed, your switch port and APC remote power socket. We will probably be offering a discount down to £49.99 for this to customers from WHT. There will be no minimum term contract, payment will be for 1 month in advance. We will of course be offering packages with both more and less bandwidth included, so any feed back on that would be good too.

Thanks for taking the time to read this... please let me have any comments, good or bad!

Regards,

Robin Balen

Interesting

It certainly sounds like an interesting proposition, although I havent yet been able to compare it with like priced services.

Needless to say there is no point in comparing it with US-Based service providers.

I certainly look forward to knowing what you will charge finally and when the service will be running.

Is their a mailing list or website?

Thanks....

drhost: as standard you would get space for a 1U rackmount server, however this is negotiable if you require space for a larger box.

vinc_dc43: if you drop me an email on robin@gyron.net, i'll add you to the mailing list for when we launch (next week sometime).

Redbus and Telehouse aren't the same speed... Just check the pings and you will see...

Nice offer though. When exactly you'll be starting off?

Hmm...

Still in the extremely low ms range for LINX and pretty much anywhere else. They're all inter-connected up to the eyeballs now anyways (Redbus is one of the LINX expansion sites)... it depends which IP transit provider you use I suppose

Our team is setting things up over the next week. We're aiming to have everything up and running in advance of the 17th Feb.

We're using top-of-the-line equipment throughout: Cisco enterprise routers and switches, N+1+1 UPS and we have 32 ports ready on a APC remote reboot system.

That is a load of rubbish , it entirly depends on your network and isp in the building , if i was to get a level3 connection from their base in telehouse and put it down a dark fibre to redbus 2 (just 120 meters away) the pings will be no more than 0.05ms more.

Try pinging 80.253.115.129 < thats in rebus

So it is hard for telehouse to justify charging over twice as much for rack rental

Code:
----access-ra1-nge0.hex.interhouse.redbus.net PING Statistics----
10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip (ms) min/avg/max = 8/8/9

----www.telehouse.co.uk PING Statistics----
10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip (ms) min/avg/max = 11/11/13
(presuming of course that www.telehouse.co.uk is hosted in-house!!)
