moneybookers.com - new paypal alternative
I just came across the site today, it looks excellent. The rates are extremely low, they accept all currencies and all countries.
Best of all, there is no risk of chargebacks!
Quote:
All Moneybookers payments are Irreversible...
Once you are paid, you stay paid! Moneybookers is a "hard" currency and transactions are NOT reversible. Credit cards are a "soft" currency because transactions can be reversed. This leaves the merchant in a disadvantageous position because it is usually not practical to retrieve the goods once control has been given
to the buyer. Instant and irreversible payments are thus advantageous features of Moneybookers payments.
NO charge back risk for merchants
We do not pass on charge backs to the merchant but absorb them ourselves. We reserve, however, the right to withdraw this policy without notice for any particular merchant who we determine is not exercising due diligence or is operating in a way which results in higher than normal exposure.
|
And they are based in the UK, not in the US! The more I find about them the better!

Not to mention the sender pays the charge not the merchant, and its only 0.75% (and is only ever a maximum of 1.50 Euro) to send - Its fantastic!
And the cash is withdrawn to your bank within 24 hours, not a few days like paypal!

The sender paying that is going to deter customers I think. I don't like the idea at all.
Just my opinion.

Even when the charge is so low that a $100 transaction has a charge of just $.75! While a $10 transaction costs you just $.08! Not to mention that there is a cap of €1.50 - so that is the max you can ever be charged per transaction.
Lets compare:
€10,000 via paypal = €340.20 charge!
€10,000 via moneybooker = €1.50
And according to the site, the merchant gateway seems to allow for the transaction charge to handled by the merchant instead of the sender but the charge is 2% that way instead of 0.75%.

Blob, read their faq.
What does it cost to send a payment?
Upload Money From Bank: FREE
Upload Money From Credit Card: 3%
Upload Money via e-gold: FREE
Send Money: 0.75% (up to EUR 1.50
The customer has to pay 3% (for uploading money) +0.75% (for sending) to buy something using his credit card.
Though the upload from bank is free, it takes around 3-5 days.
I was evaluating this before paypal launched its services in pound sterling. It is very cumbersome to use Moneybookers and not very user friendly.
It definitely deters the customers and is not a good idea to ask the customers to bear the transaction fees.

I agreee with twister671, Moneybookes is definitely not in the PayPal league. And expecting customers to pay the fee if they simply want to use their credit card surely isn't the best business decision .

I think Paypal is a lot easier as well as cheaper for the person buying - obviously. I don't really see moneybookes.com taking off anytime soon.

Have you guys checked out the merchant part of moneybookers??? http://www.moneybookers.com/merchant/en
I haven't customized it yet, but you are supposed to be able to make an arrangement where you don't have to sign up for a moneybookers account to pay (you verify by phone) and you can pay the fee that becomes 2%...
Has anyone tried this??
