Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone here could point me to a provider that allows IRC. I'm currently with FDC and though I really can't complain about the service, I am researching my options. Normally I would just put in a request but I know providers are charged for the requests and I will not be ordering till mid February so.. I don't think it's fair to make such providers pay for my request.

What I need:

at least a dual core
2 - 4GB RAM
I can do with 1 drive (at least 250GB) though 2 drives would be nice
Any reasonable bandwidth
cPanel included or add-on
at least 14 usable IP's

I do pay annually and my budget is about $1,000. I could go a bit higher but prefer not to.

Any recommendations are appreciated. I'm kind of stuck on FDC though I did have a VPS with remcom last year..

Allows IRC completely or just IRC clients only?

Completely as I am one of the few hosts that still hosts IRC servers.

Have you looked in to any of the following:

(US) Awknet, Staminus, Sharktech
(EU) Netrouting, core-backbone

Many providers don't disallow irc, just drop sales an email to confirm

You can't get ddos protection and that, double your budget for protection, even if most providers do have ddos protection and your running a ircd server it will still make it ping out and lose users so if you get attacks your done anyways.

Even at a $200 a month you will have limited options.

Trix, Thanks, I'll check them out. I know a lot of provider's don't allow IRC, which is why I decided to start this thread.. Thought maybe a few more IRC hosts might have recommendations.

Rizzla, I'm not to concerned with the DDoS Protection. I've been hosting IRC since 2004 and haven't had many issues with it. Am I a lucky one? Maybe.

For $1000/year, that basically equates to around $80+ per month.

With that amount of money, you'll be lucky to get a server let alone one that allows IRC.

If IRC is legal, there are lot's of poviders who can take your request.
There mroe problems with your budget, 1000$ annual will not be enough

The Budget isn't a big problem.. I can stay where I am for $850/yr.. As I said, I really can't complain about the service I receive. I'm simply seeing what else is out there.

The problem is IRC. Although IRC IS legal, most DC's don't allow it. This is due to the risk of DDoS that comes with IRC.

Since you are comfortable with where you are and the price is OK for you, then I would suggest that you do not move. There is basically no way you could get anything along those lines with that kind of budget.
